Can you not get dazzled by the sun when you're going slower ?

yup, with the benefit of less distance covered

Yet obviously longer to suffer it then!

I'm sorry but you are now being ridiculous.

Not as much benefit as stopping completely though?

Perhaps you should leave your car at home, and think about taking a bus?

Clearly this driving lark is far too dangerous/risky for you.

shall I now post up numerous links for cyclists killed by drivers 'dazzled' by the sun?
pretty common in the grand scheme of things

Since when has a motorist been called a cyclist?

Because we are talking about drivers of vehicles!

    Sigh!

Oh I feel your pain, sigh indeed.

I think lots of posters seem to miss this bit......

WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO....

and just so we are clear the driving test is a minimum standard if, after passing it you find you cannot maintain that standard ..........

"I can't see but I'd better not slow down so I can get it over with quicker"

What brilliant logic - look forward to hearing that one used in court after an accident! I suspect you'll find that, unlike the person doing 40 in a 60 limit, it would lead to a very swift conviction for careless (or even dangerous) driving!

    Nobody has missed it.

On the other hand, you have clearly missed the point that, at any time you're following someone doing less than the limit, it could well be you who has wrongly assessed what's safe, not them.

The first moment that you do anything that could be perceived, by them, as aggressive / pushy or cause them to alter their speed or direction - such as overtaking at a point where they feel compelled to slow down for you to complete the overtake - then it's you who becomes the "inconsiderate" driver.

The world does not revolve around you.

You must have me confused with somebody else. I haven't advocated speeding.

I simply stated that if it is sunny then I'll wear my shades and adjust my sun visor to block glare and continue driving at, or just below, 60mph in a 60mph zone.

Now, why the heck you and other posters cannot get your head around what is essentially just common sense is completely beyond me.

However, it doesn't surprise me as you and the other posters are in that bracket of about the 30% of drivers I see each day who should never be allowed out on the road without an adult to supervise them.

And where exactly did I suggest you'd advocated speeding? So far just about every argument you've posted has been based on strawmen you've created by misrepresenting other posts.

As an example, the one you mentioned sunglasses in reply to wasn't about "when the sun's shining", it was about low winter sun - which is often below the leve that sun visors will block and is not effectively counteracted by sunglasses.

When you have that low sun directly in your eyes (with or without sunglasses) continuing at "60 or just below" is dangerous as hell, yet that's what you say you do. Therefore, your judgement of "safe speed" is clearly gfaulty and you should be thankful to the slower driver ahead for getting it right for you!

Note that I've accurately reflected your words in the above, please do the rest of us the same courtesy in any replies :)
