slow drivers

If a driver wants to do 40 on an NSL road, then let him. He's perfectly entitled. .
No he is not, it's as simple as that.
If by driving at that slow speed a copper considers the driver to be so doing inconsiderately then he can be booked for it.
ie If there was perfect driving conditions then there would be no valid reason for driving so slowly just because you think he is entitled to do so.
Do you drive? When were you taught to drive at an inappropriate speed just because you felt you wanted to and were entitled to when you could never have been taught this?
MSE can be viewed as a typical proportion of the nation and threads like this just prove how bad the driving standards of motorists really are.0 -

If I could understand why, then maybe I wouldn't consider them to be inconsiderate. IYSWIM
But I don't honestly believe any of them to be either actively inconsiderate, or even just unthinking. Most drivers drive at the pace that suits their ability. That is the safest way to drive. The speed will depend on skill and ability, and we are not all blessed with supreme driving skills.
I've pulled up a few very old drivers whose slow speed has reached a level where it's unacceptable in the normal road environment, and have taken time at arranged dates to discuss with the driver and family (if appropriate) whether he or she should hand their licence in. The matter is sometimes 'assisted' if their eyesight is below acceptability, but it is a difficult wrench for some who have been driving for 70 years or more to give up their licence.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
No HGV driver would be convicted of doing 40mph in the S/C NSL, because that's the max speed, and he's far more of an obstruction on the road than Mrs Miggins in her Honda Jazz.
!
What are you on about?
We are not discussing HGV drivers actually driving perfectly legally.
We are discussing the likes of Mrs Miggins who is essentially driving without due care.0 -

The copper would make a proper fool of him/herself if they did choose to book'em for 40 on a S/C NSL.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

You are just talking absolute nonsense.
Every driver that has passed the UK driving test must have reached at least the minimum standard to gain that license.
You don't dictate what speed is suited to you to justify driving slowly that may cause a problem for other motorists just because your skill level is not up to it!
Road traffic law dictates it.
If a motorist does not have the 'skill & ability' to drive at say, 56 in a 60 zone, then they must have got their license from the black market.
What hogwash!0 -

This little part of the discussion was about the likelihood of gaining a conviction at court for inconsiderate driving. I was showing you why it wouldn't happen, namely because the speed that you believe inconsiderate for one road user is a speed that is considered entirely appropriate (therefore considerate) for another road user. A court could not therefore convict 'inconsiderate' on the basis of the speed alone, as long as both vehicles are capable of doing that speed safely.
I'm not going to get dragged into a silly debate by your inability to grasp this.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

A 60mph limit assumes optimum driving conditions by the nature of it being a limit. That would indicate that any variation from ideal (Rain, wind, darkness, mist etc etc) should result in slower speeds. That would likely mean that the 60 speed would only be suitable for less than 50% of the time.
Although it is an artificially imposed limit which your statement takes no account of.0 -

Yes, but have you read previous posts?
As in, if there was no reason whatsoever (any adverse weather conditions), then there is no excuse for driving so slowly.
And certainly not the excuse member brat is peddling, ie "Well officer, I'm driving significantly slower than what the road informs is the max because I don't have the skill or ability to do otherwise!"
Yes, believe it or not (one only has to read their posts), this is what they believe!:D0
