This is my first hangover-free Saturday morning in a LONG time. It feels great!
I am off out for a meal and drinks with friends tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations for AF drinks that are a bit more grown up than coke and lemonade?
Apple juice with soda has a very similar 'mouth feel' to wine. I suggested it a while back and others have said they really like it as an alternative. It is a great fallback to have at home too.If you like beer, the only one I would recommend is Becks Blue.
Otherwise why not drink J2O, they have different flavours.
I normally drink orange juice and lemonade when out, I rarely drink alcohol outside the house anyway. It's the alcoholic in me, even if I'm going for a legitimate drink, it's feels bad and I feel like people are watching me even though they have no idea!
Shaggy, I will attempt to do big red letters later for you on this stupid little phone on the back of the iPad'ers advice earlier
Ditto! I have told one or two friends about my drinking issues and some don't believe that I have a problem as they have never seen me drink
Well, I am sad to say I failed last night and drank the usual quantity of wineThe usual feelings of self loathing have resurfaced today along with the 'missed' tv programmes that were watched but will need to be watched again
All my AF days, and even my non AF ones (as they are a reminder of why I am doing this) are bringing me a step closer to my ultimate goal.
Anyway, I am back on it tonight and can declare 3/18.0 -
I'm not doing very well. Had quite a lot to drink yesterday evening sat by myself (nothing sadder, eh?) and today I've had a drink also. Somewhat annoyed as I wanted yesterday to be AF.2018 totals:

I think we all know how you're feeling AlexLK.
A couple of years ago I resolved to drink moderately and at least stop going to work on a Monday hungover. I think jan 2nd was a Sunday and we had friends for dinner. Needless to say I'd failed my resolution by jan 3rd. I was cursing myself all week practically. The self loathing was palpable.
But, as I heard once, if you drop your smartphone you don't then stamp all over it.

Thanks, trying not to dwell on it too much.
Not going to have much to drink tonight.2018 totals:

Goof for you Alex, stop now and the whole evening isn't messed up (and tomorrow morning too).
I'm back on the wagon now and declaring today my first AFD of 2014, and looking forward to quite a few more. SO many people I know are 'detoxing' in January and stopping drinking, it's quite encouraging.Trying to keep in budget.

gien: Thank you, I've no desire to be suffering from yet another hangover tomorrow. May try for an AF Sunday as I didn't manage to resist Friday.
Yes, I know a lot of people who are doing the dry January for charity. Don't think I could last a whole month without getting tempted.2018 totals:

Thanks to Fruball for the apple juice and soda suggestion :T
It's great in a wine glass for replicating a glass of wine. It's taken a few attempts to get the proportions right.
We had a lovely meal tonight which would normally be accompanied by sharing a bottle of rose. Instead we've had a carton of rose grape juice - bit sweeter but lovely just the same.0 -
Day, hour, minute, second at a time.
A month is a very big mouthful if you can't manage the smaller bitesHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Messed up my AFDs total in red and large font so having to post separately as can't work out how to edit it once it's wrong.
4/31
Just noticed that my wee me pic is very typical of how I used to be - glass of white wine in hand. Fingers crossed that's soon to change.0 -
The Elderflower cordial with sparkling water and a sprig of crushed mint is lovely
I went shopping on my sideboard and found a BG lemongrass & ginger cordial bought for non-drinking Xmas visitors. It remained sealed interestingly. I'll crush some mint and make it into ice cubes as I won't get through a whole pack before it turns black (MSE!). I think when you don't have that lip smacking kick of alcohol then the little details matter. Thanks for the tip Yvieblue.
I'm seeing a light at the end of tonight's AF tunnel and it's not a flaming sambuca, so today is 4/31 please.
I'm not missing it as much as I thought, especially over the habitually boozy weekend. Tomorrow to go yet though and I normally enjoy half a bottle of white with a roast chicken dinner. Might try the apple juice and soda trick.
