  • Just want to say how wonderful it is this forum is so active and so positive with all the targets and hard work everyone is putting in. Good luck to you all on your targets!

When I first went alcohol free I was so tired all the time, I felt like I was sleeping long and deep but they were the really wild dreams some of you have described. It did pass after a few days, but it was very weird! Now I am over that bit, going without alcohol has become a habit and I never think about having a drink with my evening meal automatically.

Shaggy - just 1 AF day for me so far.

    3/31 please :j

I know I will make it through tonight as I have 70p to my name until tomorrow and no alcohol in the house and I have Top Boy here.

A sober Friday night. Different. Is there anything on TV?

I've been busy too, I've been reading a book about overcoming addiction and apparently will power and self-esteem and closely linked. People with low self-esteem (me obviously due to drinking) find it hard to use will power for fear if they fail, their self-esteem will worsen so they avoid facing their addiction.

I'm going to improve my self-esteem by tackling lots of small jobs I've been ignoring around the house. I've cleaned out the kitchen cupboards, cleaned the bathroom, fitted a chain the the bath plug (which hasn't had a chain for over a year!), cleaned out my daughters mouse and cleaned my fish tank.

I must admit it does make me feel like a more useful, better person.

I'm taking baby steps as I'm so very tired right now and I am back at work next week so I want to rest up as much as possible by then. I'm more about making lists of stuff I want to do this year, I did clear out the medicine box yesterday though!

I'm on day 3/31 of the CRUK Dryathlon . I am having a really difficult time - I have just split from my partner of 7 years after he gave my DS a black eye about 4 weeks before christmas! I am facing a child protection case conference in the next few weeks. I have been drinking too much for months. My older girls nag me all the time about drinking too much - i don't get drunk but definately drink most nights. I thought the Dryathlon was a good incentive to get me started and have lots of sponsors already - but last night was hard - I have a lot of drink in the house left over from a New Year party and me buying drink like I was still part of a couple! I didn't drink lots at Christmas but certainly drank something every day! Last night I so wanted a glass of wine - but resisted and had a hot chocolate instead - I went to bed late as I am not sleeping anyway and managed to sleep ok - but I am still so tired!!!
Tonight is going to be even harder - my younger 2 kids will be at thier dads and the older 2 probably won't be home at all! I will be feeling miserable and scared and lonely- but need to resist the temptation to drink!!!

Hopefully will be able to focus on other things tonight

Sorry to hear your situation Judi. If I were you I would tip the booze away? I have Malibu, whisky and wine in the house but it can stay there, disgusting stuff. I bought my mum tins of G&T for Xmas day as I knew I would not be able to resist the bottle of leftover gin if I bought one, and I sent her home with the ones she hadn't drunk! There's two holstens in the fridge, they are OH's, if I was desperate enough to drink that rot I might as well jump in the car to the offy. So none of that stuff calls to me at all. Oh also some flavoured pimms yuck, tastes like cough medicine!! Although I am an alcoholic, I only favour certain tipples and as I said, desperation would mean a trip to the shops.

Get rid, plan your time out, be ready to fill the void xxx

Oh my word how fantastic it is to be back here again. :T The encouragement and support is amazing.:j

Each and everyone has a story about how they travel on their journey to AF days. I totally slipped and my control left me because I didnt log in here every day to ensure that I kept my momentum going.:(

The expectation of my friends is that I am able to hold my drink and am a party animal, very happy and can be the life and soul of the gathering, which to a certain extent is true, :rotfl:what they dont see is the self-loathing and waves of depression that the 'come down off' alcohol gives me. :( At least I can understand why Im feeling like that now and rather than taking another glass of wine to obliterate these feelings, I am learning to 'ride those waves' knowing that a series of AF days will become easier. :)

The good thing about a sober night in front of the TV is being able to remember what you watched the next day. In the past I've had to watch things again because I'd drank too much.

    Hi

I hope no one minds if another newbie joins this thread. Like others before me I have been watching the thread for a few weeks now, at the suggestion of my wife, an MSE fan for other threads.

It's a great comfort that there is a community out there who are all trying to deal with their own issues but still make time to support others. I hope to contribute in this way in due course.

For now, if it's OK, I'll ask the magnificent Shaggy to set my target as 15 AFDs for January. I have done 1/15 so far.

Also, I apologize if my posts look a litte dated: I'm not really up for smilies, emoticons etc. I've been in I.T. for some time and am somewhat "Old School".

    Thanks.
