    Thank you GC :A

Having a blip of just one drink takes me completely back to where I started and for me would leave me distraught, hating myself and losing all strength and confidence so it's not an option. This is just me though, others have control. Like GC, I am an alcoholic and have been for 20 years. Gotta keep on busying myself to fill the void.

Horrendous nights sleep. No night sweats to report but laid for a couple of hours unable to drop off, imagining the noises from outside and creaking house was burglars. THEN a police helicopter was hovering over my house shining light into mine and surrounding gardens for a HOUR!! I obviously watched out the window watching for shadows. Then got to sleep and had horrendous dreams about burglars with guns and police. Just shocking.

Feel exhausted but better than having a hangover :D done the washing, two hours of ironing whilst watching taped Christmas trashy TV. About to make some pancakes with the kids then me and my 11yr old son are going to make dinner, he wants to learn how to make a gammon roast with all the trimmings  finished off with hot choc fudge cake and cream :D

Good luck for tonight everyone :)

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Hello folks! I first came on this thread just over a year ago and it got me through some really hard times. I am an alcoholic and I have been in recovery for just over a year now. I want to thank everyone who has supported me on this forum. I just wanted to do an update really, because my life is so different now! I am happy, my son is happy and it is possible to change for the better and live a contented alcohol free life. I have had a lot of help, I go to meetings, I have a sponsor and I also do community therapy groups. Long may it continue. Good luck to everyone just starting out, I hope you find this thread as useful as I did and know that if you need help, its out there! For those of you struggling, keep going! For those of you who are/are not alcoholics I wish you all the best and hope and peace on your journey xxx

How nice it is to see this Jak, it's just the kind of thing I was hoping to read to keep me going. I'm an alcoholic too, one drink and I can't stop for months and months. I've just started my journey and I need all the help I can get and your post is a big help. Thank you.

I've been busy too, I've been reading a book about overcoming addiction and apparently will power and self-esteem and closely linked. People with low self-esteem (me obviously due to drinking) find it hard to use will power for fear if they fail, their self-esteem will worsen so they avoid facing their addiction.

I'm going to improve my self-esteem by tackling lots of small jobs I've been ignoring around the house. I've cleaned out the kitchen cupboards, cleaned the bathroom, fitted a chain the the bath plug (which hasn't had a chain for over a year!), cleaned out my daughters mouse and cleaned my fish tank.

I must admit it does make me feel like a more useful, better person.
