Hi all, mind if I join?
I've realised in the last couple of months that my grocery bill has been creeping up and I think it's largely down to buying more booze. Also, I know that as the days get darker I get more miserable. I think that I use alcohol to self medicate this misery, even though I know it upsets my sleep and makes me feel worse the next day; isn't it funny how you can spend the day feeling rotten then forget all about it once it's wine o'clock? I've got a wedding this month so it won't be totally alcohol free but I think i will aim for 25 days off. Wish me luck!
Yes!!! That is exactly what happens!
Welcome, by the wayAnd good luck with your target

Not managed an AFD today, even if it was (again) planned. However, I'm pleased to stay I didn't start drinking before dark (happens far too often at the weekends).2018 totals:

Evening all,
So it is now quarter to seven, I've just got in from work and the lure of a glass of red is pulling me. Just the one glass of red the other night led onto 3 bottles. Other half has made some gorgeous chilli and I am having to force myself not to take a walk out to the local wine merchants to make a purchase. One bottle would be 2 or 3 purchased then 2 or 3 drank. Tonight it feels particularly difficult for me.
Dinner soon and a walk out in the blustery wind may help. I'm sitting here with the laptop on my knee composing this and wishing it was 10 o'clock.
Calling in an early 2 AF night. Can't go back on what I've posted.

Well done on not starting until after dark! Do you find that you are drinking less on the nights you do drink?Proud to be dealing with my debts!

Barring a couple of very heavy "feeling sorry for myself" sessions, very much so. These days, on a weekend I usually have a glass of wine with my meal and a nightcap before bed. I can't even remember a time previous that I stopped after one. Before I started cutting down, I used to drink a bottle or two of wine every evening before opening the Scotch, to be honest it was getting a little out of hand. Sometimes I'd start at lunch, drink whilst working in the afternoon (self employed and do not always see customers) and then have the usual of an evening.
Looking back now, I'm thinking "what an embarrassment".2018 totals:

Night all! A sober Saturday night. A good feeling!
That's 2/25 please Shaggy....
having the house stuffed full of non alcoholic alternatives has really helped me, plus not having any wine in the house!! Husband is wavering but I am remaining resolute!Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...

Thanks all. Words of encouragement are definitely helpful and yes, I did make target last month.
I hate this 'issue' and I want to knock it on the head and be permanently AF... I love my AF days so I don't understand why I drink wine...
Looking forward to tomorrow and a totally AF day xx
I don't know why I am an alcoholic. I just am.
Accepting it and doing something about it was vital for me.
While I had a good job, wife, kids and house, I was never in control of my drinking, despite me being able to moderate sometimes.
I stopped drinking before I had 'lost' a lot - I was on the verge of losing things, but hadn't lost too much materially. However, I'd lost confidence, self-love and dignity a long time ago.
This condition I have kills tens of thousands of people a year in the UK. My alcoholism wants me dead, but it settles for miserable.
Not drinking alcohol is the most important thing in my life. More important than work, family, friends. If I start drinking, I would eventually lose those precious things in my life.
While I sometimes wish this wasn't the case and I could drink 'normally', that's a fantasy. I cannot and will never be able to moderate my drinking successfully. It is what it is.
The pursuit of trying to drink normally will kill me if I attempt it.
I know this sounds heavy and ominous, but I need to take my sobriety extremely seriously.
If I take my sobriety seriously but not take myself seriously, I'm usually a happy bunny.
Have a good Sunday folks!0
