Well, I couldn't resist the calling for a bottle of Cobra with my curry last night in the end
but I am going to do my utmost to stay AF tonight - this is completely unheard of for me - a Friday night without alcohol
Hope you all have a good weekend - whatever you get up to0 -
Hello everyone, its been a long time since I've visited. When I left the forum I decided that I was strong enough to beat the alcohol problem myself but it actually got slightly worse.
I went from drinking a bottle of spirits a week to a litre!
I still maintain I'm not an alcohol, it hasn't affected me getting up and going to work, my house isn't a tip and I'm not neglecting anyone - apart from myself.
On Sunday night I decided I had had enough of simply feeling terrible every morning. Sore head (which always means a daily headache tablet with my breakfast) and generally feeling slugging most of the day. Added to which my memory is shot to bits and a couple of weeks ago noticed when I was reading in a quiet place that I had ringing in my ears - so add tinnitus to the harm!
Anyway, as mentioned, stopped completed last Sunday night and it's been far easier than I thought however I've felt totally washed out during the day (which is ironic as I must be getting a much better sleep sans alcohol) added to this I've had a splitting headache every day, but I've resisted taking any painkillers. Along with giving up booze, I decided perhaps a detox programme was in order so have upped the amount of green veg, garlic, lemons, grapefruit, walnuts etc (although I eat fairly healthy anyway so this was no big challenge) and also bought some milk thistle tablets and have taken 2 a day since Monday.
My query is - how come I feel so tired and headachyevery day, even now on day 4 ? How long does it take to feel the benefits? Will I totally ruin all the good if I have a couple of glasses of wine this weekend?
I'm going out to see a Show at the Edinburgh Fringe today and then for something to eat.... I'm scared to blow it so considering taking the car!
Would be nice to hear from anyone who's gone through this or just a general chat with you lovely people again.0 -
I'd hazard a guess you might be feeling tired as you are taking in less calories, so your body is lacking "energy" even though it was from empty calories.0

Thanks Barny, it might be that, although I think I have been eating around 1500 calories a day which should give me enough energy?
Another guess is that my tipple is/was Bicardi and coke so maybe the lack of caffeine (from the coke) is making me feel weary.0 -

This sounds like withdrawal to meA couple of wine won't ruin the benefits but might ease the symptoms.
Going cold turkey is often not recommended for quite heavy drinkers due to feeling awful. I have read a lot about tapering which might work better for you but it isn't for everyone (like me!) as it takes discipline.
Your sleep will improve so don't worry about that.
Hope you feel better soon and I am sure you will0 -
Sorry to report that I succumbed to rather a lot of Pinot Grigio tonight. I was so happy to be home with DH... I took him to the pub for dinner, which included two pints for him, a pint for me, and a couple of glasses of PG when we got home.
sorry, folk, but I feel no shame given the extreme anxiety of brother and nieces health issues, plus looking after mum for a fortnight. DH wondered if I would be fit to run 5k in the morning. Yes, but who knows how long it will take???What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Maggiesoop agree with fruball think you have gone through some alchohol withdrawal symptoms ......
Only you truly understand what your relationship is with alcohol and its different for everyone who posts on this board but given what you have explained how youhave been feeling over the last few days all I will say is please take some time to look after and nurture yourself...... The wine will still be there ina few days time or next week if you should decide that you want ( rather than need) itCC debt Aug 2018 £50.2K

Morning :hello:
1 to add to the SNC please and thank you Gien
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0
