What do you do in the evenings?

I agree with the others - he's an adult, it's not down to you to keep him amused! But joining a gym or other sport based hobby sounds like a good plan. How long have you been living together as a family - is it quite a new thing for him? What did he use to do in the evenings?

The chance of me getting my OH to go out in an evening is small to vanishing. At the moment, we are watching our way through box sets of The Killing - the only problem is that he would quite happily watch two episodes every night, but if we do that I fall asleep half way through the second one and i have to try to catch up by watching it during the day!

I'd buy the bike trainer or some gym equipment /dvds. The males in our family -dad, brother and now my son are like that they cannot stay still and so you just need to get them what they need or else they drive you insane! They are liked caged animals if they don't get out/something physical to do.

I know any woman taking my son on will be driven mad as he needs at least 2 hours a day of physical activity .

My house it's just me and OH. We often workout before dinner either at gym or out running etc. Then home and showers, dinner, housework, ironing, preparing lunch for work next day etc.

Love how on other posts people say hubbie is playing xbox. We're both into video games in my house :) Though at the moment mine is usually a PC game and he is on the PS3 or xbox. Then we arrange to watch TV in bed together afterwards. Usually a TV boxset.

Would he not like to workout/go for a run/gym etc? Sounds as though he likes going for a cycle in summer, can still workout in winter though. My OH goes mental if he doesn't have any exercise, he can't have a 'PJ day' of doing nothing he has to go out even if it's for a 45 min run.

My wife is a teacher and shes often working until 9pm. Most people think they get 8 weeks holiday a year and finish work at 3pm. Try it as your profession and i'll give you 6 weeks until you're more stressed than you've ever been

If he's bored, I'd get him doing projects. E.g. redecorating/painting/varnishing something or building something. How old are your children? Would they like a play table or train/lego table? Or get him to sort out all the photographs or CDs etc. I'm often giving my partner jobs to do. Or even cleaning stuff out?

I can only imagine the uproar around these parts if that suggestion was made about a wife that was bored in the evenings. Get her in the kitchen cooking, or doing housework etc !

He needs to find a hobby and allocate time to that, obviously allowing time for you as a couple too. I'd be bored to death sat in front of the tv every night too. For me I run most days, cycle, and I'm currently learning to play guitar. Even my viewing habits are more focused. I'll plan to work through a boxset or watch a film, but channel surfing or just watching what ever happens to be on would drive me nuts.

I don't mind what other people do, they can watch telly all day and night, it doesn't bother me,

    - but the man I married wouldn't waste any time sitting staring at a box without clear intent to watch something and then switch it off afterwards.

If he started doing that I'd worry something was wrong. In the evening he's busy - cooking, shopping, filing things, tidying, talking to me or his friends & family on the phone, playing games, doing jigsaws, reading about history, planning holidays, a bit of DIY (he's hopeless but does try hard), sorting out the washing, looking for that map we've got somewhere of what it was like round here in 1820, outside looking at the stars, a walk down the lane in the dark, looking for hares, sorting out his clothes (trying on things from 20 years ago he hasn't parted with) -

If I started just sitting around all evening he'd be concerned about what might be wrong....

TV? - a very little, mostly while we're faffing to put a DVD on we might catch a few minutes of something. We're currently working through a box set of The Professionals (56 episodes) - we manage about one every 4/5 days.

We do very little. Dh has a really busy job, so he gets in about 6.30, tea is ready for him, I eat with the kids. He gets bathed and we normally plonk ourselves in front of the tv every night. He isnt fussed on the cinema, we don't eat out very often, and if we do we take the kids. Over christmas DH and I would go for a walk the odd night if we were getting cabin fever.
