We stay at the one in Nottingham sometimes and its an absolute hole.

Have to ask - if it is so bad, why do you keep going back?

Don't do it, there's a brand new Premier In within 5 minutes walk of the britannia...

There's no reason to book that place at all..
And that one used to be The Leofric Hotel :)

The woman from Britannia is a bit of a battleaxe!

I'm suprised anyone ever stops at places like these as surely one look at Tripadvisor would put them off. Maybe not everyone checks before they book? I always do now, and have started reviewing too..

I stayed there in the late 80's - it was a dump too. :(

Then you're missing out on a great resource.

While you can usually filter out the 10% worst and 10% best reports just in case, the others likely give a good reflection of a hotel.

The Flagship Britannia hoteo in Canary Wharf is great. Been there twice.

    Excellent rooms and lovely food.

I did have to edit my post, the other hotel which I thught had been Britannia was was not.
It was the Ramada Hotel in Grantham.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    You're missing out then.

Of course you might get the odd rogue review, but just filter those out - the general concensus is *always* accurate IMHO.

I've stayed in and rated over 10 hotels in the past year and they're all pretty much as I expected as I'd read the TripAdvisor reviews beforehand and knew they'd be okay.

As an aside, I tend to go on random trips when the hotels are cheap, so my reviews are skewed towards the 5 rating as I always factor in the price paid whereas a lot of other reviews don't (eg I stayed in the Crowne Plaza Kensington last month for £20.12 instead of £185 so of course it's going to get a 5 from me. If I'd paid the £185 it'd have got a 2 as there were niggling issues that I wouldn't have expected from such a pricey place)

I read a page or two of reviews before staying anywhere, reading the text not just looking at the ratings, and after that it's pretty obvious what the lie of the land is.

We only stay there as a last resort if we cant get our usual B&B because its cheap. We only use it to get changed and sleep thank god. We used to stay there all the time before we found the B&B as quite often we used to get rates likes £29 when the next best rate we could find was in excess of £70 - hotels in Notts are expensive on a weekend.

She's plain evil! The old manager of that awful Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, shes somehow worked her way up to head office.

I'll never forget the BBC documentary Hotel that she was in, it showed she clearly had no regard whatsoever for guests or staff.
