All the makers charge more for a spare part than the clone makers do. It's not just Apple as i said HTC charge more for a micro usb cable than the pound shop even though they do the same thing. The only difference is with Apples authentication chipset it was harder to get round but now has been and lightning charge/sync cables can be bought for a few quid now.

Apple bought out a new dock connector did they not, which means everybody who had accessories for their old ios devices will have buy A) A converter, or B) New accessories.

    And?

Apples dock connector may have changed last year, but look at the majority of Android phones, their is no guarantee of any commonality other than it will have a 3.5mm headphone socket anything else is up for grabs.

At least Apple kept that commonality of the 30 pin dock for around 10 years. Maybe they'll use lightning for that long maybe not, but it will provide more commonality than any other connector standard at the moment.

Gerneally most Android phones will charge via micro usb.

Look I nothing againist iphones (or ios devices), just pointing out how it could be annoying spending a lot of money on a iphoe/ipod touch dock say, and then having to splash out on an adapter to use it with your new device.

At the end of day you have your opinions, and I have mine. We are both entitled to them.

I can see your point but lets say I splashed out £100 on an Apple dock equipped around 10 years ago, then it would have worked across Apples range for almost 10 years until Lightning came out. Android has had no such standard, if you buy a new phone you will be buying new accessories.

Yes it's a change now, but a lightning equipped dock will probably work on all Apples new products for 10 years or so. As I said it's a pain that Apple have changed the dock connector, but the fact the 30 pin connector was a common connection for the decade or so meant that the Apple universe has these devices and Android doesn't have anything like the peripherals Apples do.

Hmmmm. Well my Samsung phone chargers and earphones work perfectly happily with my sons new Htc phone, and also of course other Samsung models owned by other members of the family.
I was surprised to discover that my sons new Samsung tablet works with an apple 30 pin charging cable, and we have several of those - what with DHs iPhone, my iPad and having bought a couple of spares at some time for about 2 quid each.
    So frankly thecomment
if you buy a new phone you will be buying new accessories.
    doesn't ring true to me.
It is simply a case of checking when looking for a new phone whether your existing accessories will fit the models you are considering, and building that into the sums.
As I said earlier, chargers & earphones cost pennies, look on Amazon or eBay.

Finally, of course the phone companies are looking to cut their costs of supply/profit margin. They are BUSINESSES - it is what they are supposed to do.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Yes, I can understand why apple changed the connector, from I've heard a lot of points on the connector where not needed in the more digital age.
