O2 plan to stop issuing chargers with new phones.

I thought an EU ruling meant all new phones need to be able to use a micro USB to charger. Not sure when it needs to implemented by through.
Doesn't seem to work with Blackberry, I have a couple of generic chargers that fit fine but they won't charge as the handset 'doesn't recognise' them. How does it even know they're not BB branded?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I now have a growing collection of micro usb chargers.. I think I agree that it's a good idea to make it 'optional' - BUT, if you're supplying a £400 phone, you should provide the means to charge it also0

I don't see a problem, as long as O2 then discount the price or credit the account by the retail price of the charger you are not getting (in case you do end up needing one and have to buy it separately).
After all, it's a green initiative, not a profit making scheme, isn't it?====0 -
They do love to get every last penny out of their customers.

And then you'll need this to connect to the iPhone 5.

Im sure apple will abide with that ruling just like they do with the eu 2 year warranty... Oh wait they dont.
How is the EU going to enforce it?
I suspect for O2 this has nothing to do with being green and more to do with profit. I guarantee they don't pass the savings onto customers. Usual from big companies.0 -
I have no problem with this provided your first phone on O2 is supplied with a charger, with any subsequent upgrades not having a charger supplied.
It does look a bit tight though from O2's side.0 -
doubt it kite
atm i dont mind as we have three chargers all the same but i do sell my phones on so not providing a charger will affect a saleringo_24601 wrote: »I now have a growing collection of micro usb chargers.. As many folk have said on here, we are gaining a collection of chargers, and an increasing number of households will have multiple chargers as time goes on. So increasingly, someone who buys your 2nd hand phone will already have a charger from their current model.
Besides, it's not as if they are difficult to obtain is it ? new chargers are available on eBay, Amazon, Argos, Maplin etc etc etc for a few quid.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

Yes, sorry. I was coming from the perspective of a Sixth Generation iPhone owner (which I refuse to call the "iPhone 5" as it just makes no sense whatsoever. The "iPhone 6," yes.) My bad.
But the point remains on 5th Generation (the 4S) iPhones and older - you can get a Micro USB to iPort adapter. It costs about £15!0
