O2's first trial of selling charger-free phones has seen a take-up rate of 82%.
The operator launched the trial with HTC in September and had previously announced plans to remove all chargers by 2015. O2 had a target that 70% of purchases of the HTC One X+ would be without a charger. The operator said that if the results of the pilot were repeated across all handsets, 24 million fewer chargers would be sold in the UK each year out of the 30 million annual sales of new phones.

Its a good plan i have 4 chargers lying around that can be used on the same phones (all android seem to use micro usb)0

That's all well and good if there was a standard charger interface. But there isn't so I will still be having mine with a charger. And should they not allow it I'd shop elsewhere.0

I thought an EU ruling meant all new phones need to be able to use a micro USB to charger. Not sure when it needs to implemented by through.0 -
This has to be the most stupid idea from a phone company yet LOL0

That's correct (unless you are Apple of course who have to be different).
My last phone was a Samsung Galaxy and I now have an HTC - both use a micro USB connection to charge.
The only problem is that I sold the Galaxy (with the charger) so I still only have 1 charger unit.
If I sell my HTC on eBay sometime in the future I shall probably have to include the charger which leaves me with having to buy a new one. If I sell it to someone like Envirophone for cash then at least I can keep the charger.0 -

They do love to get every last penny out of their customers.

They will stop issuing chargers, but will they pass the savings of not including a charger onto customers?0

doubt it kite
atm i dont mind as we have three chargers all the same but i do sell my phones on so not providing a charger will affect a saleWhat goes around-comes around0 -
As has been said, this is great idea since the EU are encouraging the adoption of a standard interface, specifically Micro-USB.
I'm an iPhone fan and think the new Lightening interface is excellent and partly see why Apple didn't use Micro-USB. Partly of course, it's profits and wall-garden mentality. You can buy a Lightening to Micro-USB adapter which settles the whole matter... until you consider that the adapter costs £15! That part, in my opinion, is not justifiable.0
