Fuel Filter and refusal to honor warranty!

Maybe you should consider telling Watchdog about this if you don't get any joy from Peugeot.

Not expecting them to waive the fee for the work tomorrow, also feel this "new car" offer will tie me into a new three year contract and I'm all doing in committing myself to them for an extra year and increasing someone's sales as we approach the end of the month!0

Yeah but Shell,BP etc put additives in their tankers, before delivering it, to clean your engine.
The supermarkets don't.
Having said that,if they didn't tell you to avoid supermarket fuel.they should honour the claim.0 -

Let me get this straight, you would consider a new car to a dealer that
won't honour the warranty,
I'd tell them to stuff it,and tell them you are taking your money elsewhere.0 -
Had it on good authority that Citroen too are taking this line (Peugeot sister company of course) and not covering fuel filters where supermarket fuels are used. Have seen problem with Mondeo also recently - 3 fuel filters in 6 months, all put down to supermarket fuel.0

I don't see how any manufacturer would provide fuel filter warranty (unless there is a manufacturing fault) - it is just a consumable part that you replace when it's blocked/dirty or is scheduled for replacement. When it gets contaminated with dirty fuel it is simply doing its job well by protecting the fuel pump/injectors/etc.
What I find disturbing is why the dealer is charging £140 to replace a £10 fuel filter (+ 5 minutes labour)? My guess is that they are so useless that they need to run diagnostics (a 5 minute job) and charge the customer £100 for the privilege.
Roadside assistance mechanic would probably diagnose it for you for free."Retail is for suckers"

Sainsburys fuel is BP fuel!!!, my cousin is a manager of one (which i wont name). Some of the most brainless 'mechanics' seem to work at main dealerships speaking from past experience
And I doubt we are on 'summer diesel' considering soon as the mention of the word 'fuel strike' the pumps run dry in 48 hours0 -
shouldn't there be a law which govern these type of stuff. Like all fuel sold must meet the spec of all relevant cars and all cars sold must be specced for the relevant fuel sold.
Either way, why should the vehicle owner be liable for that. Surely this should be between the fuel company and the car/part maker for not adherin to regulations.
I'm surprised you're getting this crap from peugeot - I would expect that bull from shoddy garages.0 -

There are indeed some fairly strict laws, and regulations on the quality of fuels in the UK.
I would very much like to see any car company get away with an official company line of "our cars are not designed to meet UK standards for fuel", at least if they wish to continue selling their cars in the UK for long (from memory our fuel standards are actually pretty high compared to much of the world).
IIRC even when they state "premium" fuel in the manuals, that is normally a reference for countries where you can get multiple grades of fuel, or might be tempted to use a lower quality (IE intended for say ship engines) fuel because it's cheaper.
IIRC it's Trading Standards who check fuel quality (or at least will be able to point the op towards the right people) and I suspect they'd be quite interested in hearing that fuel being sold in the UK is not up to scratch.
It sounds to me like someone is trying to get out of doing warranty work, or is just plain trying it on.0 -

AFAIK they may use the same fuel but they use different additives. no idea what is contained in the additives but you can expect the BP and Shell additives are going to be a lot better than supermarket ones.
I know additives make a difference because I used redex fuel injector cleaner in a recent fill up and it improved my mpg and got rid of an emissions workshop warning on my dash.0
