Dont ask for money as a wedding gift... its crass and tacky

A sorry but you're wrong....I'd rather give some money than something that will stay in a cupboard or in the bin.....
In France giving money to the Bride & Groom is common practice...I went to a wedding last year and instead of having silly present they requested money to pay for a new kitchen....well I'd rather do that and think I have contributed to something useful...

You are getting married in Vegas? If so, how much have you already paid? Have you booked tickets?

Unfortunately not, thats what I wanted to do, just book flights to vegas, and come back married, we'd have paid for it and been married by now. The fact that our family wouldnt be there was the dealbreaker, and my parents offered to pay towards the cost of having it in the uk,

    It's also practical.
  • Let's hope family members dont interfere and tell you how to raise your children or how to maintain your relationship....

Could you see if the venue will allow you to change the date e.g. to next year without losing the money and with giving you longer to pay? I assume that is what most of the remaining cost is for?

Then if you need to, you can just let everyone know. I know it is disappointing but it will also give your guests longer to meet their own costs and I bet some of them will be secretly relieved.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

It says she want to get married in Vegas not that they are getting married in Vegas. Think that would cost more than the £3000 they are trying to find.

Ignore my post OP answered before I did!

That was cleared up ten minutes ago! :p

And you can do a Vegas wedding for half that amount ...

This is the route I want to go down. We are going to be together forever, what difference does an extra year make? I think my partner sees it as a pride thing, we'd be letting a lot of people down who have booked and paid for accommodation already etc, but in my heart I know it makes the most sense. I'm going to go to the bank on Wednesday knowing that I'd rather post pone than take on more debt, so I don't feel so pressured into signing for more debt.
  • Are you talking about a wedding here or a humdinger for the families in Las Vegas? Because that seems to be the objective of everybody else except yourselves.

No vegas wedding!!! That was what my suggested plan was. Wedding is here in the uk.
