    Hi DFB30.
I've spent the last couple of hours reading through your diary and just WOW! you are so inspiring. I'm a tiny but younger than you (26 in July) and Have a large OD and CC to clear.
Also wanting/needing to save for a house fo me and my 4 year old. Living with my parents ATM, so most probably renting, although have been dating my lovely BF for 17 months so you never know. If things go well and I kick this debt thing, potentially buying.

Anyway, it's just so inspiring to see how quickly you can turn things around. well done you.x

    Hi StarMummy :hello:

Thank you for popping by and thank you for your kind words! I'm not sure I see myself as inspiring, I have very much plodded my through this journey and had some very demotivating patches along the way! I'm looking ahead though and I know a couple of years of being a cheapskate now won't matter one little bit when I'm debt free!

Do you have a diary of your own? I'll have to have a spy if you do, it's nice to have somewhere to spill your thoughts and try make sense of them! Saying that, sometimes, what goes on in my head is all over the show! I wish you, your lovely BF and your little one the best of luck on your DF journey :) xx

Interesting read - one question though: how does getting yourself a mortgage equate to being debt free? I'm confused.

    Hello d70cw6 :hello:

Thank you for dropping in. I look at the debt I've been clearing over the last year or so as "bad" debt as I can't really explain where it came from. It just built up from general overspending and living beyond my means. I barely have anything to show for the money I spent apart from maybe a nice handbag and memories of drunken nights out. I would have lots of spare cash to spend however I liked if I hadn't run up this "bad" debt and that frustrates the hell outta me  Not much I can do about it now apart from keep my head down and get rid.

With regard to the mortgage - I consider this a "good" debt. Perhaps that is double standards on my part but at least I can see what I've spent my money on! I won't be paying off my landlords mortgage in rent but instead investing in my own bricks and mortar. I don't plan on taking my foot off the gas if and when we become home owners. I want to finish paying off the BC as soon as physically possible - hopefully by Christmas if the house move goes through. I then want to put away a sizeable chunk of my income each month so I can look to pay off at least half the equity loan before we start paying interest. Perhaps I will be able to join the mortgage free wannabes once my other debts have gone!! :D

  • Happy Friday MSers!!

I don't have much to report (heard that before!) other than I'm trying to push the mortgage application to the back of my mind (easier said than done!) and just concentrate on the mountain of work I have to do at the moment  Did a big shop last night which will hopefully see us through the next couple of weeks bar picking up a couple of essentials along the way. Spending wise I need to put a lid on it for the rest of the month. My spending CC resets on the 25th so I have a fortnight to spend as little as possible. Time to re-embrace those NSDs I think!! Payday is next week and this will be the first month I can put aside some money toward the potential house-buying fees! Actually I've already spent on fees so it'll be put aside to clear those off the spends account!! Everything costs so much money!!

Right, there's my moan for the morning, onward and upward now!!

  • Feeling nervous about the mortgage application. As hard as I try not to think about everything it keeps creeping back in! Aaargh! Hopefully we'll hear something this coming week and they'll book the valuation :o It's just a bit frustrating knowing there's nothing whatsoever we can do!!

Payday on Tuesday :D First month in three years with no loan payment!!

  • So the valuation is booked for tomorrow, we got the text on Monday so I haven't been tearing my hair out all week waiting to hear from them! Just got to wait and see for the next step now.

Payday was yesterday, I've not properly had chance to have a look at what I'm putting where yet - will have to get the calculator out! Guna add a house budget line to my signature too....

  • Well hope everyone has had a lovely Easter weekend! I'm sat ploughing through loads of work, but I'm at home in my pjs still so it's all good :D

According to the developer the valuation went well on Thursday, damn the bank holiday weekend for holding things up!! Not good for my impatient soul. Hopefully we'll hear back from the bank this week and they'll be happy enough :o We're aiming for exchange on 1st May and then should be able to complete in June although I think I will try and push that back as we are very very busy in June and won't have much time to actually move!! I'm sure the developer won't mind right?!

Trying not to spend many pennies, easier said than done sometimes. Just need to coast through until Friday now when my spending CC resets. I stupidly sent a CC payment to the wrong card last week, sent it into credit, so have to wait for that to be reversed before sorting out where all my money is going

Need that house buying budget line in my signature still....

  • Literally can't stand waiting to hear from the bank!! They texted to say the valuation was booked for today, but they are telling lies, it was done on Thursday!! Silly bank holiday weekends throwing everything off

    I just want to know!!

  • So I've just sent £70.29 over to the BC, my fixed DD of £50 will go out at the end if the month and wipe the second BT balance before it starts attracting interest :T That then leaves £1560 which I will leave until we hear about the potential house purchase. I will then formulate my plan of attack!! Still waiting for the £250 I stupidly sent to the wrong card to make its way back into my account, I think I will then have £410 in the house buying fund. Applying for a mortgage sucks!

I do have a little Diary going that a started a couple of weeks ago. not sure how to do a link though. I can only imagine the stress you are feeling with the house purchase but a little mantra i sing to myself when i'm struggling may help "nobody ever said it would be easy, they just promised it will be worth it"
    keep smiling.:D

  • Aaaaaaahhh our mortgage has gone to formal offer!!!! Yey!!! :T :j

Now we need to get exchange but there's a problem with the new HTB agent not sending out certificates in time  Who knew house buying was so awkward?! So much waiting around and that in itself is just stressful!!!

Not got much planned today, in money saving mode!!
