Free codes for Unlocking Phones OTHER than Nokia's

Hello,
Please can someone help with my queries below?
My uncle has given me a Motorola Razr V3 phone (very generous although it is bright pink - never mind!!). Anyway, I don't know how to tell if it is already set up to a particular network. I'm just charging it at the moment. In the box is an envelope saying Virgin but the Sim card is missing from that envelope. So I'm assuming that it might be locked to Virgin but am not sure. Is there a way I can find out?
I use Orange pay as you go and ideally would like to use my Sim card in this phone (as my other phone has broken). If the phone is locked to Virgin (or another network) is there a way to unlock it to use with Orange?
If not, do Virgin pay-as-you-go give out free Sim cards like Orange do?
Sorry for the dim questions!
Thanks in advance for help.

if you uncle is a virgin customer and he has spent £30 or more on top ups in the past then they will give him the code, otherwise a trip to the local market normally has someone doing these for about £10Ex forum ambassador

There are Virgin Sims on ebay for £2.50 which have £5 free credit on them saving you £2.50 if you need to get a virgin sim as the free sim offer has ended now.0

This place charges £10, you will need the usb data cable that came with your phone, they give you the software and instructions to unlock it yourself

Or this place is cheaper still, but I have not used any of the sites so dont know there reputation.

Just bought myself a Samsung E250 from tescos however I would like to unlock it to use on o2. Is it possible to unlock this phone?
Thanks0 -
It is possible but there is not a free code to unlock them, they are unlocked using software and the cable that came with your phone, there is 1 guy on ebay who is selling the software for £2.50 but I do not know if this will be the correct solution. Other than that then a local car boot or unlocking shop will do it for between £5 adn £100

3 possible ways, try ringing O2, they will quote you a price to unlock it, they will do this buy asking you to buy credit so say they say £20, you will have to buy £20 worth of credit and it will be unlocked and you keep the credit, or you can take it to a local car boot where they charge you around £10, the 3rd option is untested by myself and uses the cable that came with your phone, this is the website and it gives you the software to do it yourself.
