I'd go on a cruise, and have a really good cabin, possibly a suite

When i say 4k that wasn't for flight and acommodation, it was with what we was told we'd need for spend as well.

because it's the end of summer, it's the fall, it's congress in sept and fashion week. Couldn't get flights for under £600 each aa from man, i probably could have gone for cheaper acommodation, but ended up looking at the affinia shelburne that was coming in at £1500, so before we'd spent anything that was £2700, and we had £1300 for spend.

Decided it was way to much to spend on a week, i loved my paris/madrid trip, so much were looking at another 2 city break now.

Who told you you needed £1300 to spend??

If you still want to go to New York one day go in winter or spring you can go for £6-700 for flight & hotel for 5 nights. And you don't need that much spending money unless you're planning on going in tiffanys ( in which case you'll need more :). )

On tripadvisor, we was told to allow £100 a day for food and drink and put extra on for extras.

Another vote here for Vegas ! Hubby and I have been twice and if finances allowed we would absolutely go back. Theres so much more to Vegas than casinos, as other posters have said there are many other attractions. Fantastic place with a fantastic atmosphere, everyone should go to Vegas at least once in their lives :j

I spent £300 (just for myself) for 5 days and that had special Birthday dinner at posh magazine recommended restaurant.
That also included my shopping-jeans (at bargain price), Armani belt and new make up.
However-in NY for food and drinks you can spend A LOT if you are gourmet eater and like your wine. Wine is very expensive in restaurants, and so are liquers in bars. $13 for Malibu&coke!!!
However in NY no one cooks at home-there is number of cheap places to eat. Full pizza/salad dinner from take away opposite our appartment-$35 for 5 people. American style breakfast $11 pp. You don't need lunch then.
NY is what you make it. You can do it on a budget. BUT that depends what you want to make it.
So yes, I can see how you can spend that.

Well yes, you can spend any amount on travel, I was looking at 2 hotels in Italy one was reasonable around 400 for 3 nights and the other was 1,185:eek:

I'm looking to take my OH on a holiday abroad for his 25th around May time. We have both only ever been ouside the UK to Spain and Florida.

I'm happy to go anywhere. Looking to go for about a week. Budget is about £3k, £4 at a push.

If someone gave you £4k to spend on a weeks holiday, where would you go?

That is a fantastic budget. Where you go really depends on your interests and preferences. Do you like a relaxing holiday or one where you are active and enjoying lots of stimulating experiences? Would you want to stay in five star hotels or are you happy to experience more of a 'local' type of accomodation.

The world is your oyster but what concerns me is the timescale you have. Could you extend how long you are away for? With that type of budget you could afford to go longhaul but with the length of flights it would really cut into how long you would have to enjoy the actual destination.

Some of the very favourite places I have visited and can highly recommend are Boston, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, LA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cape Town, Cairo, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Prague, Rome, Venice, Barcelona.

If you can extend how long you can be away for you cannot beat Australia and New Zealand though travelling later in the year may be better. If you go in September for example you could enjoy their Spring. Very pleasant and not too hot.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful suggestions.
Taking on board your comments I think you're right in saying that we would most likely need to go for longer than a week.
Everywhere suggested sounds lovely, especially Australia but I would ruin the experience being constantly afraid of deadly insects!
Vegas sounds right up OH's street! Looking online it looks amazing and I could treat him to a helicopter ride at the Grand Canyon.

I've decided I'm adding all your suggestions to my bucket list of places to go before I snuff it. Thanks again :)

I'd go to Mexico for two weeks, the first week in a sleepy area with a lovely beach, the second in a lively city with lots of amazing street food.

Our last holiday was to Northern Spain, and it was fantastic. We spent 5 days on the coast in San Sebastian in a small apartment with a beach view and balcony and then 5 days in Rioja, tasting wine and eating fantastic food. That was £2k for 2 people, including spends.
