£3k for a week?? Asia. I am hoping to save that much for my OH's 50th and go to Vietnam. Prefferably via another big city (Singapor, Hong Kong) and stop there too.
You can do multicentre holidays beach AND city with many companies with that sort of money if you are not feeling hot organising hotels, transfers etc in very different foreign country.
  • For a week's break I wouldn't be thinking of anywhere that's more than a five or six-hour flight. Any longer than that and it's crossing too many time-zones and cutting into the time spent away.

I went to Phoenix for a short break and the jet-lag after coming back almost negated the benefit of going
  • Too many here are suggesting long hail. Pointless for a week you will be too tired only for yu to be heading home before you know it.

My suggestion is the Orient Express - but you may need to stretch a bit even on your very generous budget.
I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.

I agree a week for too far away is pointless.
But I also think that £3k on not too far is far too big a budget. Unless og course you want to go 6*.
Save the money for when you can go longhaul for longer.

I would go back to Singapore. I love it there ad it has EVERYTHING a holiday needs to have. City/Sunshine/Beaches.
  • I would do Europe due to the travel time, but do something special.

Is there a hobby or interest your OH would like.

    A cooking holiday

We was going to go to new york for husbands 50th, last sept but it was coming out around £4k for a week.
    Too much for us
So we flew to paris (easyjet £15) went to see the arc de triomphe, then did 4 nights in paris, nice hotel (hotel 7 eifel) £100 a night, then on the wed we flew to madrid from paris (again with easyjet) £25 each, stayed in a lovely hotel right on the plaza in the centre £99 a night (hotel europa) flew back to england again with easyjet, cost £25

And we loved it, a few days in paris was great, and because we'd spent not a lot on our travel and hotels, we had some lovely meals out, spend wasn't a object. We did a lot of walking in both cities, but we love this, back pack camera and book and were on our way, night lovely meals at restaurants we'd research from tripadvisor.

then with the money we had saved we went to tenerife at new year for 10 days. x

When i say 4k that wasn't for flight and acommodation, it was with what we was told we'd need for spend as well.

because it's the end of summer, it's the fall, it's congress in sept and fashion week. Couldn't get flights for under £600 each aa from man, i probably could have gone for cheaper acommodation, but ended up looking at the affinia shelburne that was coming in at £1500, so before we'd spent anything that was £2700, and we had £1300 for spend.

Decided it was way to much to spend on a week, i loved my paris/madrid trip, so much were looking at another 2 city break now.
