Help!

For the past two days my multi burner hasn't been heating the water at all. The radiator in the hall will only come on with the pump when I turn the thermostat down to 50c. Stove is boiling hot and the gravity fed heaters upstairs are hot. I've googled, but cannot find the answer as to why everything is hot, but not the water!

What is the stat set to ?

We normally have our stat set at 56 deg but when its cold as it is at the moment I turn it down to 25 ish to keep the water circulating.

The stat on the hot water pipe is currently set to 50c, but I had to do that to get the pump to come on and heat the rad in the hall. It is usually set to 70c and I get hot rads and boiling water, but I have no hot water at all and the stove is glowing hot.

The stat though is set way too high for starters, ideally wants to be around 55 - 60 deg.

As for the stove glowing - shut it down pdq overfiring a boiler stove can lead to the boiler exploding especially if the water has been boiled out of it
Does the stove just do central heating ? or does it do heating and water if its the latter then could be the 3 port valve thats got stuck, if just the heating then could be an air lock.

It does heating and water. My thermostat is set in Celsius? oC? Different to Fahrenheit? Where do I find the 3 port valve?

sorry had to pop out and change the gas bottle on the cooker!

3 port valve will be where your hot water tank is, sounds like its got stuck or its kaput !

    looks like

You see on the one above there is a little metal switch / lever try moving that, it will go into manual operation as opposed to auto, if you can feel hot water going through it that means its freed up, then put it back and see what happens that will tell you if it simply got stuck or its the motor inside the valve thats gone

I've got something that looks like that located close to the floor near the stove. Its got Wilco Gold written on it and a box sits on top with a little white dial. Thanks ever so much for responding btw

I doubt it would be down there, Wilo are pump manufacturers and Wilo Gold are a pump made by them - so just guessing that is your pump.

Have a good look where your hot water tank is.

Hot water tank is in the attic, but this is close to the stove http://www.go-repairs.co.uk/#/pumps/4526762090

You have to have some patience with me, I'm a woman lol. Just turned the little white knob on it and its pumping slightly faster.

Now you have said that - it is definately your pump next to the stove, the little white dial is a speed selector.

See if it makes a difference - probably wont but at least it will have ruled out a pump problem !

3 port valves going or getting stuck is a very common problem, pump dont often go wrong.

Thanks muckybutt, I have a better heat distribution across the 3 pipes now and the water has gotten to luke warm. I shall get my son to go into the attic when he can get through all the snow and have a look at the tank.
