Ok so I gave in and checked the offer, as I started worrying it would be totally different terms and there are now even fewer options on the MSE best buy page... It is the terms I applied for, and now better than any of the options listed.  Phew.  :relieved:

  • Oh that's a relief and a weight off your mind - always good to get these things out the way if you know it will bug you.
Hope things go smoothly from here on in, nice to have the flexibility with the landlord.

Sunday shuffle... very little to report really as haven't been spending.
Sorting out completion date with the solicitor, probably going to be a fortnight rather than week as need to move funds, and get insurance etc in place.  Just about to go and do some buildings and contents quotes.  Still feel a bit antsy about the whole thing tbh, as everything is so up in the air in general, but really don't want to wait til spring and do this all over again.  So plodding onwards.  No problem getting time off work as I basically haven't taken any holiday yet, so think I will take pretty much two weeks.
Only other MSE type news is I think I might look into SORNing the car - I don't need to run two vehicles and while I am working from home it's not a problem to use the van as my daily drive.  Once I have a driveway to put the car on, that becomes an option and would save a chunk of money every month.  I can of course also sell it, and I might think about that too but then I'd have to go through finding a decent car again whereas this way I could just mothball the one I already have.
I've no idea where the weekend went! but did have some good chill time and chats with friends.
Hope everyone else's week has been ok too.

Well things are beginning to come together... rounding up info and quotes etc.  Fyi, if you are planning on moving money *out* of Premium Bonds, plan it well in advance - the transfers take time and they won't allow you to move money just before the draw date.  Things have worked out OK in relation to pay dates which is a relief, but am still not quite sure when the first mortgage payment will fall so will be sticking all initial costs on the credit card and keeping as much cash available as possible til everything calms down.
I have quotes for buildings and contents insurance, disappointed to find that the mortgage broker quote was much more expensive so will be going with either comparison site or direct quote via one of my occupational discount clubs.  Probably the club as the gift voucher is one I'm more likely to use (I have no interest in meerkat toys).
Feeling quite lucky to find that both my landlord and storage unit are happy for me to just pay for the days I'm using - so sparing me rushing or worrying about having double costs for a month.  I'm planning about a week's overlap and will try to get broadband supply booked in advance.  Not sure what happens about the Council Tax, might have to ring and ask them, but at least that can be sorted after I have the keys.  Broadband will be cheaper and I'll stick with my current utilities supplier for both places as I like them so far (it's the 8 legged one).
I definitely need a fridge freezer but want to check measurements so will do that on day 1 - if possible I will be treating myself to an American style one.  So far the best option looks to be that place that does computers as well as home stuff, but I had such issues last time I bought from them I'm a bit put off.  I think I'll go and talk to the shop staff and see if what I want is in stock (it's certainly on display) as it might be easier to book delivery on a specific day that way (and I think I can still get the club discount).
I've got naff all packing done as this place is already so jammed there isn't really room to shift anything from its current spot... so am just going to try and patiently do it all bit by bit once I've got the keys.  Fingers crossed...

Note to self and anyone else moving house - it appears broadband installation is only required for switching away from the last supplier.  I just saved £50 and a week's wait by checking another supplier.  It's no cheaper overall as the increased monthly cost wipes out the saving on installation, but it does mean I'm not being messed about for a week and waiting for an engineer appointment.

Sorry for not posting much Rosa but congratulations on the house. We bought our American FF from this site a few years back.

Delivery was straightforward. We opted for a Samsung with plumbed in water and icemaker (plumbing already existed in the kitchen for one) I must admit i was skeptical about whether it would just be a fad but we use both a lot and the ice is a godsend in a heatwave (DH uses the ice facility daily for cold drinks too).

  • Fab news all round, good luck with the Fridge Freezer :) XX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I have an American style fridge too and love it. It doesn't make ice but it is great for batch cooking and storing YS items. It sounds as if you are really organised for your move.

It's all go Rosa! I opted to stay with my broadband & phone supplier and resigned another 18 months to prevent a house move fee.
I'm tempted by an american ff too, still debating it here!
