The only idiot is the one that assumes something is unlawful without asking.
What is wrong with reversing and forwarding in the event of being cauught out in a box to avoid a penalty?
Any ruling and something that you can point to before calling someone an idiot?0 -

Purely on technicalities you MUST STOP between the two....
On safety grounds however it's probably a no-no.... as well.
LegallyYou MUST NOT reverse your vehicle further than necessary.

Bearing in mind the dangers of doing it and the actual purpose of a box junction it's definately not a good idea and certainly selfish to other drivers.
Although I would love to see the drivers from the other directions appeals against the ticket they get. My route was clear and then it wasn't and then it was and then it wasn't.
Would love to see video footage of one driving getting stuck and then the drivers from the other direction also deciding to go backwards and forwards. Would cause a traffic jam worth watching.0 -
A good start would be a google on:
Jennings v Transport for London PATAS Case no. MV0285GT01
(This was I think the landmark case)
By reading them you see how the PATAS people's minds work.... what works and what doesn't.
A good start for a spot of reading perhaps, but Jennings has no relevance to the OPs circumstances. as I said in post #800 -

Nope but if he starts there he will find lots of other PATAS cases (many of no relevance to Jennings vs TfL either) but he should find a lot of useful information by starting here.. finding the PATAS cases and reading through.
I already knew about the ENTERING part due to reading some when I was looking for a completely different PCN. (Hence why I didn't note any case numbers)
If I had time I would read through and find the relevant case numbers but i'm sure londontiger can do that for themselves.0 -
Any news regarding your case?I drive that road every day and i could not see any cameras out here.0

hi, i did not get the ticket. i suspect its not monitored. i dont think any box junction or speed trap that is so badly faded is monitored but that's just my suspicion.
The other explanation is that I didnt break the rules as I entered the box while the traffic was moving slowly and stopped after i entered.0 -

I hope you dont believe that, but then I suspect you do0 -

so what are people supposed to do? when you're driving 10mph. You should all stop at the beginning of the junction until the entire junction is clear and you can see at least 1 car length empty on the other side before you proceed??
That would be great for London traffic. imagine if everyone did that.
IMO I just make sure that I can see the cars on the other side of the junction moving sufficiently fast before I enter - works out for me 99%
As mentioned earlier in the thread, as long as traffic is moving and not stationary when you enter, thjen it's not a violation if you stop in the box because the traffic suddenly stopped.0
