Yes I think you. Ay be a bit vanguard centric. I would check the make up of the lower risk vanguard finds if I were you and make an assessment of the investments. It's obviously been pointed out previously that you are buyin an average world market, with no investment in property, smaller companies, tech, commodities etc.

In your case I'd be concerned that the low risk funds would have a large weighting of bonds, and many bonds are overpriced now due to interste rates being so low, with the potential for a capital loss when they are redeemed. Eight years isn't that long in investing terms but I'd be tempted for a bit of diversification. I'm veering towards the vanguard uk equity income for half ny funds this year, investing through a different broker as my current one doesn't offer vanguard.

Thanks for the reply - I obviously need to do some more research before I plump for what I'm comfortable with.

Hi everyone, just started reading this thread but will be trawling through it in the next few days, quick q ( which may already have been answered sorry) would drip feeding £100 a month in the VLS 60% be worth it or would I be better saving a few grand and getting a chunk at a time, I know the £2 charge would mean in month one I am paying. 2% month two 1% etc and that that isn't really ideal but I'm hoping in the long term it will work out to be ok

I hope my advice is right but I think the other people will say invest when you can't don't wait.

Nice one, I was trying to find out what the optimum number of funds are. I know it depends on your investment pot. So for me personally it's £3500 at mo but probably rising to £6000+ over the year so don't know whether to have that in say 3-4 funds or have it spread even thinner ie 6-7

I would go for it. The trade off between a nicely diversified fund with a low TER charge held for the long term with a regular investment through thick and thin - with a £2 charge could be seen as good value against many other things.

Forgo one coffee a month , miss one beer ,or even one supermarket sandwich and the cost is covered.

It wasnt that many years ago that there was a 5% charge on every unit purchased let alone the annual fees of 1.5%

Ill agree that charges are important but if you can save that money elsewhere for this purpose do so and just throw it into the cash account once in a while be done with it. Maybe psycho maths but it adds up in my head.

Hi Carpi, how you get on in the new tax year have you decided on any side funds or staying with the VLS80?

I am sticking to my drip feeds at the moment and balancing out, happy with this at the moment :)

    Thanks

I am sticking with just VLS 80 at the moment, no particular area is standing out to me but in time, I am sure i will add a few more. Just looking out for some good prices...

What is the charge if you switch between VLS funds, eg from the 60% to 80%, is it the same as switching to any other fund?

    Mine are with HL.

Sounds good, if nothing stands out at the moment VLS 80 is very good and maybe some prices will come along when you see something.

I am pretty settled now with what I have and be drip feeding every month.

    Thanks!
