Genie straighteners £9.99 (was £62.99) very similar to GHD.

:T Cant thank the op enough. I ordered these after the hut messed up my order for the £65 wide plate GHD and am not disappointed. I tried these for the first time on tuesday (as soon as they arrived) and my husband actually asked if I had been to the hairdressers. I usually only have good hair days every 6/7 weeks obviously, but not anymore as I have been out dog walking twice yesterday and again today, and even after sleeping I did not have to straighten my hair again. What a result!!0

I received mine yesterday (delivered by UPS) but received the normal size ones rather than the wide ones I had ordered. At the price though I'm not all that bothered as they work fantastically and heat up really quickly. I've never used GHD's (bit expensive for me) but these are a million times better than my dodgy old tesco ones (unsuprisingly). I also ordered and received a couple small gift packs of bath gel and body cream which are going in my pressie box, bargain.
Thanks to the OP xx
I received the wide ones & ordered the 1" black!!! :-(
Anyone want to swop?!:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -
Just tried mine. Admittedly I was skeptical but ordered on the strength of the reviews here (thanks all!). On the plus side I've found that they work a treat - my hair is thick, wavy and hard to straighten and they glide through very well without dragging/snagging to achieve great results.
I've noticed that the plates don't line up perfectly when together but they're close enough so it's not really an issue bearing in mind the price paid....but one thing that does really worry me is the smell. Has anyone else noticed a burning smell on first use? Not sure if this is normal and will pass but as soon as they started heating up they gave off a burning smell and I could even see faint wisps of what looked like smoke coming out of one of the holes near the end, from under the plates. I thought it might be normal so I carried on using them but will keep a very close eye on them and if it continues I'll have to send them back....which would be a real shame as their straightening performance is great!0 -

Yes I was thinking the same - probably just a faulty set as nobody else has mentioned it. I don't really want to take any chances but I couldn't wait to try them out. I'll call tomorrow. Apart from the burning & smoke they really are fab!!!0 -
Got mine today but can't wait to try based on the reviews. Thanks OP

Really disappointed as Sally have made a mistake & sent me the wide plate version when all my paperwork is for the correct 1" black straighteners!
When I rang them today I was told I would have to return them for a refund & they only have the pink 1" left!
It seems a shame to return them when I know other people missed out on the deal but I really want some 1" black.
I may put them on eBay to recoup my costs including postage but am open to offers?
Ideally I would like to swop them if anyone has received the 1" by mistake?:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -

Hi, I've had mine a while now and they did smell a bit hot the first few times...more of a chemical burning smell but to be honest this seems to be the case with everything new that's electrical. I got a new set of curling tongs and a new toaster for christmas that both smelt a bit of burning for the first few times. My husband is an electrician and says it's normal...something about components and coatings heating up for the first few times....but definitely keep an eye on them if they're smoking.
