    I've been Money Tipped!
Buying oat so simple? This is a money saving site! porridge is an excellent breakfast and cheap!

Fwiw, IMO there is no perfect. I prefer mine thicker than normal unless I feel unwell, when I like it 'normal'. I also adulterate with fruit often enough.

The way I make porridge, you could serve it in slices!

There is. Buy Oats So Simple. Follow instructions.

My OH read the instructions - but it didn't say 'tip oats into a bowl' first, so he tried to make it all in the little packet  then said it wasn't as nice as when I make it.

    I kid you not! :o

PS He's only 62 though - perhaps the saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks comes to mind - or good grief, hasn't the man got brains!

ITA Oats so simple too expensive!
The answer is that you experiment with all the recipes that everyone gives you for their ideal porridge (but note: always use the same oats for the experiment, so you keep at least one variable constant) that way you find out exactly what suits you.
    Here's mine for 2 people:
175 ml. Co-op oats, 3 tablespoons Co-op dried skimmed milk, 450 ml. water. Steam oven 100 degrees for 12 mins. Stir once during cooking.
I know that this is too watery for some, and that not everyone has a steam oven! But it's my 2 penn'orth.
Oh, and welcome to the world of most marriages!

I totally agree with you, porridge and milk have to have a perfect consistency. Next time he mentions the oil in the car, which half Arsenal scored in, or his shaving rash tell him you'd rather discuss porridge. But be careful this could turn int Porridgegate unless you keep a close eye on it.

You are absolutely right, fortunately we have a great sense of humour so OH is giggling about it and me.... Oh revenge is best served cold:rotfl::rotfl:

I have seen my son do this:eek: fortunately he has stopped now as once the milk tipped everywhere when he wasn't holding it properly:rotfl:

A handful of oats, a mug of water and salt. Heat up on hob and keep stirring as it thickens. Serve with milk in cup.

I am with you on the porridge problem. 'Oat so simple' is brilliant as you pour the milk into the little bag and it comes out lovely 2 minutes later.

So, that is that problem solved for me. Now I am concerned with how to make the perfect gravy. Any tips folks?
