I loved that advert. Always makes me think of porridge being pure comfort food
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
I hadn't eaten porridge for over 20 years until I fell pregnant and had a mad craving for it.
I used to use half a cup of oats, one cup of milk and then I would cook it on the stove.....you can't make proper porridge in the microwave!
I used to put my feet up and scoff the lot with loads of sugar on it.
Ready Brek and Oats so Simple (clearly not simple enough for some!) are NOT porridge, they are just porridge dust. Ooooh, I'm going to have to go and make some now......:D"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Sorry, have to add my porridgy twopeneth....
Have tried to like it made in the above ways, but this is the only way I like it:
Grate some apples finely, so almost a puree.
Add porridge oats to make thick sludge - you can store this in the fridge for several days.
Take what you want each morning, loosen up with cold milk.
It tastes quite sweet - I never put any sugar on.
Ready Brek on the other hand... Tonnes of cold milk (really sloppy) and enough sugar to make it a bit crunchy (definitely not very healthy!)0 -
I couldn't even get oats so simple to the consistency I like it, so now I start by adding a bit of recently boiled water from the kettle first, give it a good stir so no lumps, then add milk, stir to mix it well, then microwave.
When cooked, I put it into a bowl and then add a circle of cold milk round the edge. Perfect.
Best ever proper porridge was made by my mum many years ago, by soaking overnight.0 -
The thing with porridge is that people like it different. My mum liked it so thick that her spoon could stand up unaided, whereas I like mine nice and runny. Makes it hard to make multiple portions at once...0

But like the OP, my DH just glazes over when I start my random ramblings, porridge or otherwise.0
