They are in administration now http://www.deloitte.com/view/en_GB/uk/services/corporate-finance/93a34f0356f3c310VgnVCM3000003456f70aRCRD.htm

Deloitte appointed administrators to HMV Group plc, HMV Music Ltd, HMV UK Ltd and Fopp Entertainments Ltd

Nick Edwards, Rob Harding and Neville Kahn of Deloitte, the business advisory firm, have today been appointed Joint Administrators to HMV’s UK retail business, the high street retailer of filmed entertainment, games, music and portable digital technology products.

HMV, which is headquartered in London, operates out of 223 stores in high streets and shopping centres across the UK, and has 4,123 employees.

Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator and restructuring services partner at Deloitte, commented: “HMV is an iconic retailer and continues to be a very popular brand, but as we have seen with many high street retailers, the market is changing rapidly and conditions are currently very tough.

“Following our appointment, we are working closely with management and staff to stabilise the business in order to continue trading whilst actively seeking a purchaser for the business and assets. We appreciate the cooperation and support from the staff, customers, suppliers and landlords at what is clearly a difficult time.”

Certain HMV Group plc subsidiaries including HMV Guernsey Ltd, HMV Hong Kong Ltd, HMV Ireland Ltd, HMV Singapore Ltd and 7Digital Group remain outside of an insolvency process.

Have you recently bought an HMV gift card at Asda? We can help

    http://your.asda.com/news-and-blogs/bought-a-hmv-gift-card-at-asda-we-can-help

You will be aware from the news that UK high street retailer HMV has officially gone in to administration. Since November 2012, we’ve sold both £10 and £20 denominations of HMV gift cards at 120 Asda stores.

HMV has now stopped accepting HMV gift card purchases from their own stores and all other retailers.

From 15th January until close of business on 30th January, we’re allowing customers who bought HMV gift cards from our stores to return them, if they have proof of purchase. In these circumstances, we will transfer the face value of the HMV gift card to an Asda gift card.

We are unable to swap cards without proof of purchase (either an Asda receipt or bank statement). Your statutory rights are not affected.

The money goes onto an Asda gift card...
  • I went on yesterday at work to spend the last of my pure hmv points. I had 15000 but there was hardly anything on there. Only spent 12000 so had 3000 left but oh well.

Luckily I spent the other 50000 I had on there the other month.

I have bought a magazine subscription to Total Film with my pure points and just received my second issue. as I have used the points upfront I would have imagined that HMV would have bought the subscription upfront too but I did ring yesterday to find out and she didn't know so will have to ring on Friday to find out. Am bummed if I can't have the entire years subscription.
The truth is out there... and I want to believe

Update on HMV gift vouchers: unfortunately, HMV in the UK will not be able to accept gift vouchers following the group’s administration. It is also unable to accept exchanges and returns. Whilst we fully appreciate that this is difficult news for customers, the financial position of HMV UK means that it is not possible for the business to accept these. The position of gift cards is the same as that of gift vouchers and holders of both will have an unsecured claim against HMV UK. Details of this claim should be put in writing to the Joint Administrators at PO Box 810, 66 Shoe Lane, London, EC4A 3WA.

there is an ad on ebay offering around 45% of the value for your gift cards

there is a speculation going on that if a buyer is found and cards can be reused again, then there is money to be made by these people. There is a shop in Kingston (see hotukdeals) that is offering 50% off goods if you hand over your HMV card with value on it.

Well, I see that Dixons reported strong sales, so it's not all doom and gloom.
