Has anyone had experience with the injection form of contraception?

I have been on the depo injection for the past 3years now, and had no periods at all in that time. I was around 18 when i got put on it, due to the pill giving me bad migranes, and i was never really told about any side effects etc.
Now 3 years later i have recently been looking on the internet about this form of contraception and it hasnt had very good reviews, such as how long it takes for your fertility to return etc.
I have decided to come off the injection now and it has been about 5months since my last one. I feel so much healthier, and my hair that i gradually have been loosing over the years has started to come back etc. (i have no intentions of trying to get pregnant, i just feel its too much strain on my body etc).
I was just wondering if anyone else has had the experience of coming off it and what other forms of contraception they have gone on to.
I am going to go and speak to my doctor soon to disscuss it, but they never seem to tell you the full story, so i thought id gain abit of knowledge before hand, so i can discuss any worries!
Thanks

Hi
Not sure if you have a family planning clinic in your area as they are usually (not always) better than going to your GP. If you have one I would suggest making an appointment there. If your not sure if you have one try the link below

I had bad side effects on the pill so was given the IMPLANON (implant) I thought it was great, no hassle what so ever and the good thing was I had no side effects, but others might have a different view on the implant.
Good luck in getting it sorted

Oh Depo...... I was on the injections some years ago and all I can remember was how much of a b1tch I was when I was due for another injection. I've now got the Mirena coil and it's brilliant. I don't have periods at all.
I don't think they will give a coil to anyone who hasn't had any children though.0 -
I was DP and was taken off it forthe immense head aches I had, the skin was affected and the hormones were impossible....when I came off them the head aches stopped, the skin improved, the periods were on and off but eventually settled, I suppose every person has different reactions to it, they were just mine but I would say that it does affect the hormones....0

I've been on them for 6 years, no PMT and no periods. I love it.
They do say you gain 2kg a year on it, but my weight hasn't changed since being on it.
GP has suggested me maybe trying the implant, still unsure as I have been so happy with thisOne day I might be more organised...........

been on it 13 years, no periods, no pmt, nothing, its fantastic. i have gained a tiny bit of weight but heck, i'm in my 30s, and by actually dieting, i lost it anyway. So could have been any reason for the weight gain.
no idea why anyone would put up with periods if you can avoid them
oh, and i;ve also saved money as well. tampons etc are what? £5 a box so thats £60 a year, nearly £1500 if not used up to 50 ish)0 -
I know it's not the injection - but I had the Implanon implant...and it waas great at first. However my periods were getting seriously messed up (2 weeks apart, heavy and lasted well over a week), I was putting on weight, my skin got worse....needless to say I eventually gave up and begged the FPC to take it out - she didn't want to, but after waiting 2 hours (and I'd made an appointment!) I was determind.
I went back on the pill in the end - not that I need contraception, chance would be a fine thing :cool: Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190
