Hi, just thought I would give you my experience.
before having my Ds1 I was on mercilon (mini pill, I think) came off this just b4 getting married within 6mnths preg with ds1. After having Ds1 I decided I needed something a little better as I had a habit of forgetting to take pill. Decided on depo injection, I thought it was fantastic as I didn't have to think about it and my periods stopped, bonus..
Two & half years later decided we wanted to try for another..After trying for 6mnths nothing happend and circumstances changed. Went back onto mercilon however during this time Pills were taken late and forgotten. Hence that within ashort space of time preg with Ds2. Again after having Ds2 decided on the depo injection. Again no periods.. bonus. However, when I was due for one of my top ups, I forgot due to son being ill. So waited for start of periods. Periods went haywire, couldn't find out why and then fell preg with Dd1. after having her 18 mnths ago. I had decided to be sterilised, so went on mini pill again. However, I then decided against it, Gp gave me info on implant, coil, mirena and injection. However, someone told me that their weight ballooned up on the injection. I had not thought about it previously but always had trouble losing any weight after having lads but am sure this side effect didn't make it easy for me.
in feb I decide I would give the mirena coil ago. Although I still have periods at the moment it's great not having to think about it and is told it the next best thing to being sterilised.
I would advise that you talk to your gp or the family planning clinic(whichever you are comfortable with). Look at how long they may take to get out of your system as some take longer than others. Good luck and hope you find something that suits you.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

I have been having the injection for 3 years now. Have heard some horror stories about it but it has been fab for me, no period, not noticed any weight gain etc.
We dont want children for a couple of years but I have decided to have a copper coil fitted before my next injection. I am very keen to try and get my periods back to normal before we start trying so if we did have problems they wont blame the depo. Also will be intrigued to see if my sex drive increases withoout the depo as it is seriously lacking much to my husbands dismay!!!0 -
Id rather be pregnant than use any form of contraception. How bad does that sound ha. But i dont like condoms, i hated the pill, my brothers wife went really weird on the injection so im steering well clear. Im going to leave it all up to nature.
But then my family have bad fertility so its probably good i dont damage the poor repoduction qualities i still have.0 -
I was on Depo for 7 yrs, with no periods, spots and a little weight gain. New doctor advised me it can cause osteoporosis, and fertility problems. We also wanted to try and start family soon so we agreed I come off it, to get my body back to normal.
Doctor said it could take upto a year to get periods back and she was right! During this time we used the diahrapm (sp)
Once my periods returned to normal, we started trying for a baby, seemed to take forever. We eventually were referred to infertility clinic and the not long after the first appointment came through we found out we were pregnant.
I would say look at all the pro and cons. Everyone is different and it effects people in different ways.
I loved not having periods, but then hated it when I really wanted them to come back to normal.
Different doctors give different advice, make sure you get all the info first.0
