I've been on them for 6 years, no PMT and no periods. I love it.

They do say you gain 2kg a year on it, but my weight hasn't changed since being on it.

GP has suggested me maybe trying the implant, still unsure as I have been so happy with this

2kg a year - I'm more like 3! though I guess my diet is mostly to blame lol
I love the injection too - I do get occasional 'ovulation' cramps but no PMS no periods ... only down side is I will have to stop when the menopause starts so I'll be returning to periods just as they start to mess up!
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

Oh Depo...... I was on the injections some years ago and all I can remember was how much of a b1tch I was when I was due for another injection. I've now got the Mirena coil and it's brilliant. I don't have periods at all.

I don't think they will give a coil to anyone who hasn't had any children though.

I had the depo and altohugh I didnt feel rough from it at all, it did caudse me some quite serious problems ( IN MY VIEW) I have had chronic pelvic pain and the drs are unable/ unwiling to say whether the depo was to blame however they made me come off it. They gave me a mirena which gave me the most hidous hot fluishes, fainting, collapsing, and it looked as if ythey might have to give me HRT to cope with it. last year was utterly crap - as some of you will remember for me!

However, im on the standard copper coil now ( ive not had kids- they didnt seem to have any problem with me having one  ) and its been fine, although the putting it in was a bit awful- my periods have come back, im slightly slimmer ( i blame cakes, not contrception;) ) and 100% in the real world. as opposed to being effectivley disabled by the other hormonal methods.

Id go au naturel if we were ready for the patter of tiny feet- but alas not just yet!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

It made me bleed for weeks non stop - have a Mirena coil now and have not had anything more than stains for years. That could be due to my age by now. Will keep the coil because even if I decide to take HRT it is one half of the recipe you need.
  • When i was on it i constantly bleed for a year, then dr's would say wait till you have the next injection it will settle down,It did'nt.
Eventually after 12 months i said enough enough, came off it,never again.

Depo gave me serious weight gain. It gives most women an increased appetite. Weeks after I came off it the weight fell off so it must have been the depo.

I was on this for 2 years until I read a magazine article claiming it gave you
    depression
    weight gain
    bad skin
    mood swings
    loss of libido
    to name but a few.
I gave it to my husband who read it and said "F*** me, thats you to a T!"
so i stopped having it and am like a new woman.

    Hi there,

I'm on the implant too, used to be on the pill, that failed, had a few injections but didn;t like them so i had the implant put in last july and touch wood all is well with the exception that my periods are few and far between but when they do come they usually last over a week. When i first had it put in i bleed constantly for 3 months but was told that this was just settling in.

I will stick to the implant as it lasts 3 years and it is no bother at all.

I'm another fan of the depo I have been on it for nearly 7 years and i find it so convenient, i am about a stone heavier than i was when i started on it but that could be, my diet, my age, my lack of exercise, i guess different things suit different people.

exactly. I could blame depo for my constant attempts to diet but its probably the pizza and alchopops.

if we started a thread on any contraceptive method, we'd have people that thought it fine and others who have issues. as i say, i have no issues, and have been sent for blood calcium tests and bone density scans (due to no periods) but all is fine.

I was on it before I had my son, it took me five months to become pregnant, went back on it after I had my son and I never had any problems. The family planning suggested I took a break from it as I had been on it for more than two years as you are more at risk from osteoporosis, now I don't take anything and I have never felt so much better even though I never felt i had any problems with the depo
