I was on depo until this time last year. I'd been on it for two years and came off it because I wanted something more long term, contraception wise. I've now got the Implanon.

However, I did have substantial weight gain when I first went on depo and a severe loss of libido. The plus point was that I didn't bleed for those two years! :D

I was advised that due to the history of DVT in my family (ie my maternal grandmother died of a heart attack at the age of 84!), there would be a greater chance of me getting it through use of the pill.

I've had no problems with Implanon (the implant) and I'm happy that I came off depo, mainly because I don't have to remember to book an appointment at my doctor's every 3 months!

I went on depo 8 years ago and i came off it last march,

Went on as my periods were so heavy they were leaving me anemic so this was the best way to stop me bleeding

Now the down side ive put on nearly 8 stone with it and it also has given me bone problems as in the fact its made my bones week..

They found this out when in 5 years i had 4 broken bones.. never had a broken bone in all my life before depo

I got taken off it as i was told you shouldnt be on it for more than 5 years as there were to many side effects, never told me about them when i was taken it thought

my periods came back with avengence 8 months later
Im now losing the weight i put on

I also heard not sure if true that they were going to stop giving depo in the near future

i've been on the depo, for nearly 2 years, had my last injection in August 2006, as we've decided to have baby3.
I loved the time on it, i was one of the rare ones to lose a little weight, since i've come off the depo, and extra mouthful of food, seems to add an inch
when i 1st went on it, i wasnt told of the problems and side effects as you can read online now. so i'm not happy, cos i wanted to get pregnant before the end of this year. still waiting for fertility to get back to normal

Depo gave me terrible spots! I always used to have one around my period, but with depo I always had 6 or 7 at a time, and every day a new one arrived =(

I also had trouble with infertility (though I had other issues - can't categorically blame the depo).

I would never have it near me again!
    :)
  • So reading this (though I know the thread isnt actually bout implanon) it sounds normal???? to bleed for over 3wks after having it put in? They didnt warn me about that as a side effect.

exactly. I could blame depo for my constant attempts to diet but its probably the pizza and alchopops.

    .

What people don't realise is that there is something in the depo that makes women more prone to cravings and increased appetite hence your want for pizza and alchopops (what's that?) I was told this by a family planning nurse. I believe it because of how quickly the weight fell off when I came off it.
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

I hope its normal as they never told me either but i did question it and they said it was just my hormones sorting themselves out.

Yes, it's normal. It causes the womb lining to shed. I bled for the first injection and have had virtually nothing since. I also got really spotty initially but that stopped too. I've always been moody so I wouldn't notice the difference :D :rotfl:

I'm going to have the implant when my top-up is due as it lasts three years, is the same drug basically, and I was told that if I decide to try for number three (Heaven forbid ) that your periods return to normal a lot quicker than they do with the injection.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
