Money taken out of bank, not received, can your bank get you it back?

My friend ordered an item on-line on the 2nd Jan. Paid through bank transfer/online banking.
2 weeks later they've not posted it saying they're waiting for the moneys to be put through..
He's checked my bank online and it's right there on my bank statement saying it's gone out to them!
Is there anything his bank can do to get the money back? It wasn't cheap either
Don't think i explained properly, sorry, it was paid on a Debit card.

Chargeback - MSE article
Does that work with bank transfers...? Didn't think it did.
OP - this is why you shouldn't pay strangers on the internet by bank transfer. It is very difficult to get your money back.0 -
Bank transfer is only people or companies you know0

My apologies. I missed that it was a transfer because of the words "taken out" used by the OP instead of "sent" (="given").
I really hope that it is not the case this time, but IMO, all companies that don't accept cards and ask to pay by a bank transfer instead are scammers. One has to be crazy or very naive to send money to some unknown company.0 -
It's a company my friends friend has used before, normally he uses Paypal, but this time as he's only just moved house paypal wouldn't verify his card to the new address straight away so he paid via on-line banking instead.
Grumbler-what do you mean by 'dont accept cards?'Save, save, save, save.0 -
I mean don't accept card payments.
I cannot even post an example as usually such websites don't last long and those that I knew don't exist anymore.
See, for example
Rek Mobile
Techlet.co.uk SCAM site!
Ever heard of this website?
That said, the fact that your company accepts Paypal is a good sign.0 -

Which is it?Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Which is it?
Sorry, i just asked him again. He said 'i went onto my online banking and put their sort code etc in'
So, i guess it was direct debit?
If he explained this to me before he did i, i would have told him not to!
Sigh, just read another thread saying basically there's no hope if you paid bia bank transfer.
Definitely no hope?Save, save, save, save.0 -
Stop guessing. It was a bank transfer. Nothing to do with a debit card that is just linked to the same account.0
