Lovely walk in the sunshine with Pip just now and am about to have a cup of tea and [STRIKE]DH's Minstrels I found[/STRIKE] a healthy snack :). Guess then I should venture out into the kitchen, scarey place it is, and do some stuff from the list. I have been good this morning and done 2 typing jobs, paid bills online and done beds etc.

Saw some lovely birds on my walk as went along the lanes but a) I don't know which birds are which - needed Dusty and Narc0lepsy with me and b) even if I did know birds better, I didn't have my distance glasses on - how I hate getting older :o.

DH asked me what I want for my birthday which is coming up quickly now. Of course I said a puppy cos I've been desperate for one for ages but he's made it very clear no to 2 dogs :(. I did wonder about having my hair coloured to hide all the greys - what do you think or should I just give in to my age and let the greys come through? Last time I had it done it went really brassy and looked awful.

Skint, your LO sounds gorgeous and what a good boy he is! My DS likes to help me too - DD used to but now it's a bit more of an effort to get her to do stuff (apart from baking which she always pesters me to do with her!)

Best get me bum in gear hadn't I .....

HH of whatever anyone? I'm freezing my **** off sitting at the computer, so if I set it on re-boot and update virus checker etc it will make me get on with some flying.

Having designated 2013 for having a life re-think, I'm not sure that the master plan of going freelance is a good idea. Should just be grateful with what I've got, and get on with it rather than rocking boats in stormy seas.

I was really lucky - I threw in the towel and left teaching way back in 2001, with a complete change of direction to freelance translation, and for ten years I had a wonderful job that I really enjoyed, instead of one that I had been pushed into by my first husband. I never earned a great deal, but I had more than enough to live well on by my standards, saved a lot, and had the satisfaction of knowing that every penny I earned was from using my own brain. My reputation with the agencies and individual customers that I worked for was good, for both quality of work and turnaround times, and I loved the challenges that each day brought. In many ways these were the best years of my life.

I carried on working when I passed retirement age - 60 in those days! - but soon afterwards met the man who is now my DH, and life got even better :j
I used moving house and getting married as my reasons for stopping work completely (anyway, by that time I was only working for one agency on a regular basis). Now I'm doing a completely different type of work, unpaid, and enjoying that. And playing with the grandchildren :D And flying, of course :T

I certainly wouldn't want to give up job security and try to branch out on my own in the current economic climate, but then I am not a big risk-taker. My 2001 "shock resignation" was in fact carefully calculated and well planned: it just needed something to nudge me over the edge of the cliff where I was hesitating, and when it happened, I jumped confidently. For me, it was the right decision, and one that I have never regretted.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, Narc0lepsy. Live your dream if you can.

Anybody want some German/English technical and commercial dictionaries, so that I can clear 2 more metres of shelf space in the study? *fling* ;)

Yes it's getting really sad with all those big names, and fairly good quality too, struggling and sinking. And my DH just called to tell me he has had his redundancy letter in :(:(, (he drives freight trains) there was talk of this every year since he started there but now its come true. I don't know how we will survive on my wage alone, he has been offered to move to Carlisle but he doesn't want to uproot us all & it would also mean I would need to start looking for a job (much as I hate this one I am in, I need it).

He has an interview on Thursday, as he has been productivly looking as he knew redundancy may be on the cards. He has went round 3 of the railway depots and spoken to managers, asked questions relating to how the depots/company work, done loads of research on the internet & now just a 300 word essay to do before Thursday, this is his 2nd attempt to join this (passenger) railway company & if you don't get in 2nd time then you cannot apply again. Although 1st time around they asked him
"What do you know about our company?"
    He Replied
"Nothing":eek::eek: as soon as he told me that, I told him he had blown it :rotfl:

So if you don't mind ladies, positive interview vibes for Thursday for my DH, he is quite a shy person & may struggle a bit but I am going to psyche him up the night before & bombard him with questions, I shall tell him the power of the flyladies will be in the room with him :D :A

I'm on a purging spree :D I'm clearing out bookmarks. Why on earth I've bookmarked individual pages on a website I don't know :o:rotfl: I'm counting this as my "HH dealing with files", only its going to be more like an hour. Best bit? DD doesn't have homework today so I can carry on working on the laptop until its time to make tea :D

Hi there, you need to go to Edit, then Go Advanced and you'll see the strike out sign there (an S with a - through it). Hope that helps!!

Dusted DS2 room - whilst watching the birds (best room for it but he doesn't like me being nosey out the window) and saw 3 long tailed tits, I love the way they fly. Also spotted a new bird just not sure what it was as only a quick look but some sort of finch I think (cold have been a female chaffinch).
The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair
