    Hi,

I am new on this thread.
    A bit about myself.

I have previously grown carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and strawberries in pots. They all tasted very nice.
I have a greenhouse, used for flowers for the garden.

I have decided to 'grow my own' because supermarket food is tasteless and farm shop food is expensive.
I will be turning a part of my garden to a mini allotment,(15 ft x 15 ft)
I had 3 strawberry plants this year and have take about 16 plants from runners.
    Cheers

    Welcome gill. :)

How did you get on with the cauliflowers in pots? I've tried that before but not with any success. :(
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Aubergines - wow MBE! Yours are better than mine. Gah.

Oh, don't fret. Although I did actually sow the seed of that aubergine, it's the one I gave to my dad in Kent. :rotfl:

Mine still hasn't flowered and won't unless I get it in a bigger pot. :o

    Hi
I didn't do very well with the cauli:o but the broccoli was fine, and the carrots were great.

Hi all, my summer fruiting raspberries are tailing off but the autumn fruiters are looking very promising.Masses of little sungold tomatoes and these are being given away to my dog walking friends!Cucumbers are also going mad in the greenhouse. The climbing black french beans are now being frozen for winter, as well as eaten most days, the best crop for a long time.
Still no squash setting, but they are racing down the garden path to meet me! Courgettes, onions and some of the pomodoro tomato have been made into ratatouille, had to buy garlic as mine sulked and then disappeared boo!
The pullets,[ both of them! ] are giving me 2 eggs a day, so have to get some large coffee jars to make pickled eggs i think.
All in all, after last years disaster in the garden, really pleased with how well the fruit and veg has done.... and lots of Bramley apples too later. The pantry shelves are looking good and i could do with a bigger freezer.
Well done you clever gardeners who can grow cauli broccoli and carrots, i don't even try these anymore.
    Caz

Harvested my first cucumber! Superb! 10" long - far longer & wider than any I've ever grown before!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Good job your dads not competing then. One thing I have noticed down there is how much more light there is than here. Makes me realise how much smog there is in London.

Lemon well done on the cucumber. Mine seem to be anything but straight this year, and less than last year.

Did a tomato audit yesterday and the black Russian have the least number of toms on them, very disappointing and unless the taste out of this world won't be growing them again. The best are the mini Italian plum that I grew from an armpit cutting from a neighbour. For a bush tom it's massive and covered in trusses which need a lot of support.
My squashes are flowering like mad, have 1 baby squash so far but loads more flowers so hopefully not too late this year.
Apples are looking good too so is next doors pear tree.
They never pick them, just leave them to fall on the ground and complain they are full of bugs. I've explained pears need picking early and said I'd show them how to pick them next weekend and hopefully they'll let me keep a few ;)

As my blackberries aren't ready yet, went for a wander yesterday and hubby and I picked 850g in an hour. Looks like prime time will be another 2-3 weeks yet, but happy with an icecream tub full for now.

And I have too many runner beans, I have them frozen, dehydrated and fresh in the fridge. Less plants next year.

Haven't had time to be on here much lately, and I'm off again for another 6 days. :o

Hope everyone keeps busy and keeps the harvest coming in. I've got more marrows than I know what to do with.

Do the honours please annie? I'll post some updates when I get back, honest. ;)

Sorry to disappoint Annie but I've harvested some of my Black Russian and they were really disappointing. They had very thick skins which is most likely due to the weather but they just didn't have much taste at all. I have lots of gardeners delight trusses but they aren't ripening yet.
In other news-peppers are ok but none harvested yet, so rather late. Chillies are a big flop this year and this is due to starting too late. French beans have been great, peas ok but I didn't successional plant, ditto mange tout. My first attempt at courgette is producing lots of flowers but no fruits yet. And competition runner beans have now got going but I don't have the biggest yet, in fact I'm quite a way off.

Have a nice time MBE and look forward to the updates when you return.

That's a shame Fay, but doesn't surprise me. Pasta sauce for them then.
And plenty of time yet to get a big runner bean, keep feeding you may yet win.

Yes, I have insomnia again, going back to bed now. I'm going to be fit for nothing tomorrow.
