Yes, do the above. It has massive underground roots. Glyphosate does the trick.
Thank you- my mate is getting me some of the stuff the council uses. I've cleared what I can into garden waste sacks that the council are collecting on Friday.

Too much to mention but I wouldn't want to take the shine off that wonderful holiday.:rotfl:0 -
Welcome back LV.
Did everything survive whilst you were away?
This winter we will be eating a lot of tomato based sauced recipes. I'm so pleased I've got a dehydrator as I would have run out of freezer space by now.
The plants on the turf roof seem to have survived transplanting so I'll put the rest on there this week. No sign of my winter spinach yet so I'm going to sow some in pots and transplant. Dug up the last of the spuds in the ground, and enough there for the next few weeks which is nice.
Sifting compost today, need the bin as empty as poss by the end of the month.
Need to get in the habit of picking up the shed padlock key. So annoying getting there only to have to walk back along the garden, down the side alley, up the stairs to key pot then all the way back down again. Extra exercise I guess
MBE, you back yet?0 -
everything survived in as much as stuff hasn't grown - so not much change from me being here!
Aubergines are going well, as are courgettes. My squash plant is about the size of a football and full of flowers and I have NO IDEA whether that is normal. Probably not.
I've been out picking blackberries from across the road, so am about to make a crumble. Yum.0 -
My courgettes have slowed down and just producing male flowers at the moment. Good job really 'cos everyone was getting a bit fed up them. I have lots of tomatoes but they are not ripe yet, like others though i started them late. I've had quite a few broad beans and french beans and there are still a few to go so feeling quite chuffed really. My soft fruit has been less successful, i think the birds have got the lion's share so task for next year is to create a mini fruit cage of some kind. The cucumbers have gone mad - I must have about 8 on two plants and they are still growing and producing more! My best year for growing yet!Books - the original virtual reality.

OI!! you got back last week, still hungover?0 -
Update from me,
the beetroot has been harvested, & is pickling in jars. Better crop than ever before.
Still have a ton of carrots in the ground.
Cucumbers being eaten - coming along great guns!
Chillis have flowers, but no fruits yet.
Plenty of green toms, no red ones. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I'm back,
I haven't posted for 2-3 months but 2 new hips (the last one 3 weeks ago) and a deep vein thrombosis later I feel like a new person. The only problem is the veg patch is so overgrown and weedy I think I shall have to use glyphosate on the beds. I can't bend over just yet and I am still not walking independantly so I am a bit restricted in what I can tackle. I think I shall let the hens into the plot and see what they can do first before glyphosating.
However, I have been collecting blackberries, some crab apples as not all are ripe yet and rose hips for jam and wine.
Just had my birthday this month - a new shiney pair of Falco secateurs - sad isn't it when that's what I asked for instead of nice 'smellies'0 -
Zafiro, I'm sorry to hear you've had health problems but pleased you're back with us again and belated birthday wishes to you.
Which reminds me, happy anniversary to John, think it's around nowish and hope your wife is back to good health too.
I've finished sieving my compost and bagged it up, seeded the areas of lawn that got trampled on whilst shed building, looked several times for my green manure to go on the area the spuds were in, but not found it-yet, and picked my first red chilli today
I've got 3 bns now, won't grow that big due to the time of year but should get 6 weeks worth of outside weather yet so they'll be fine.
Looked around for turnips and realised that I haven't sown any morebut picking loads of blackberries from my thornless 99p store twig
The 25p curry plant may have to go, even just the lightest of touches and my hands smell of curry for hours unless I scrub them immediately
My homemade apple picker works really well:j only tested it on pear tree and nearby cookers just waiting for the eaters to be ready and I'll be off foraging.0
