I think my chilli plants are starting to develop flowers...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Something I've definitely learnt from mine is that they might need a helping hand from a cotton bud or make up brush- just go from flower to flower with it to mimic insects doing the pollination- if I'd known that a few weeks ago, I might have more chillies instead of yellow flower buds just dropping off :(

    Hi,

I am new on this thread.
    A bit about myself.

I have previously grown carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and strawberries in pots. They all tasted very nice.
I have a greenhouse, used for flowers for the garden.

I have decided to 'grow my own' because supermarket food is tasteless and farm shop food is expensive.
I will be turning a part of my garden to a mini allotment,(15 ft x 15 ft)
I had 3 strawberry plants this year and have take about 16 plants from runners.
    Cheers

Due to inconsistent appearances from MBE :p Welcome to the thread :D
That's a nice size area you'll have for growing. My garden is only 10' wide and only the top 10' gets just enough sun to grow food so you'll do fine with your area.

My dehydrator seems to be constantly filled with courgettes at present and the yellow baby ones are looking at me threatening to grow lots.
Had loads of yellow chillis off the Hungarian hot wax but will leave the rest to turn red, my son can have those ones.
A couple of beef toms are just starting to blush and the cherry toms are proving loads of red ones daily.
I really need to get some successional sowing done urgently and more spinach for winter too.

Cheers for this. I was wondering. Someone had suggested to me they are self pollinating, like tomatoes. Good to know.

John and I will be the judge of that :D
Plenty of time for yours to improve yet ;)

I'm going away this weekend for a fortnight so heaven knows what will happen in the meantime. Am bribing a neighbour to come and water it.
  • I've not posted for a while but the garden has been busy. We had best crop of strawberries this year, raspberries have grown really well but the fruit seems to keep disappearing - birds i think. French beans and broad beans have done well and coming to end now. Cucumbers continuing to produce and lots of small green toms. Aubergine has flowers but nothing else yet - but I did sow them late. The courgette, however has gone all out for gold and looks like a triffid - I'm stretching my cooking skills trying to find different things to do with them - pizza, salad, pasta sauce, muffins. Maybe I should start a 'what to do with courgettes' thread.
