Here, I am, back again, not posted for a wee while, but need to get back into the swing of things, not always easy to keep focused is it? Anyways, I havnt got any further in debt, which is always a good thing, and I've just updated my sig which nice, seeing figures go down.

I went to see a mortgage broker a couple of weeks ago, I'm hoping I can get a new fixed rate deal, been on a SVR with NRAM for the last 6 years, overpaying and trying to get some equity, to get out of the together mortgage I took out, because I had no money for a deposit after my divorce. I'm hoping I can get another 5 year fixed, he's come up with a Coventry deal at 2.29%, taking my mortgage payments from £640pm to £506pm, hmm, wonder where that saving will go, straight back on it!

Really hoping I get an offer, keeping everything crossed!
This MFW journey, is a long impatient one, sometimes, it's hard to keep the momentum up, because, even though the numbers go down, it's just not enough. Is it just me, that dwells on the obvious too much?

Anyway, I is wittering, wishing everyone, momentum to keep on the MFW path.

Hi Kodagirl, I've newly got my first mortgage but can understand how it's easy to get demotivated. With buying a new build we've started from scratch so no real spare money...I'm just trying to save where possible until the new year and then looking at plans of action and setting small mini goals for the next few months to stop me from despairing that £5 is not going to make a difference.

Good work with keeping the debts down and fingers crossed for the fixed rate- that rate sounds pretty great too! :D
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!
  • HI Kodagirl,

I was in the same position as you, rebooting life a few years ago, with a 95% mortgage on a 2 bedroom flat. A few years down the line and things have panned out fine, and I have just one year to go to pay off my mortgage, and am already thinking that the obsession with being mortgage free will be replaced by an obsession for saving. I'll feel like Scrooge this time next year!

Ahh, thank you both for your words of encouragement, I think it's hard for everyone, especially so, for the 1st 5 years, so they say. At the start of my mortgage, I used to get my statements every 3 months, and honestly, it hardly budged, but the last 4 years I've been over paying, it's amazing the difference, I just wanted to see it get to under 100k, and when it did, what a feeling, need to set another milestone, really.

Some people can get online access to their mortgages, I would love that, that would spur me on, seeing my balance going down in front of my eyes.
Bournefree, you have done amazingly well, any tips you can give? How have you kept motivated, in your darkest hours?!
