Hi
my flight on saturday 15th June orlando to gatwick was delayed/cancelled for exactly 24 hours. as yet i have not established the reason but i plan to put in a claim for 2 adults, 1 child and an infant and see what happens.
my question is, our outbound flight was delayed by an hour so can i also claim for the outbound delay? from what i've read i can claim 300euros per person for this length of delay meaning 900 euros per person. Can i do this? has anyone else tried it?
many thanks0 -

Inbound 600 euro each passenger. Did you get hotel food and refreshments etc. If not keep receipts and make a claim. You are entitled to "Duty of Care" irrespective of the cause of the delay.0 -
Out Bound No.

I have just found out that the delay was due to "crew reasons" on the VS15 flight having a knock on affect to our flight, VS16 meaning we were unable to fly.
I am uncertain as to whether this is classed as exceptional or not and whether my claim would be valid. I would expect so but has anyone else an opinion on this?
should i make reference to this in my claim letter?
many thanks0 -
Just an update, i sent a NBA letter to Virgin with no response within 14 days. Started proceedings and have had reply that they will defend it and have 28 days to sort their defense out. In the meantime I have now ahd a response to my NBA letter again stating the same reasons as before and denying compensation. Will see what comes about from the court side of things and see if they pay up in full before it goes any further.0

Napedog, we were on the same flight and I am looking now to start the ball rolling. We didn't receive a text to say the flight was delayed and even managed to check in online only 4 hours before the flight was originally due to take off. Apparently the pilot was sick, but it seems the same excuse was used the previous week too.
We were given vouchers for meals and taken to a nice hotel for the night. However we left Epcot to go the airport originally and could have had a whole day there if we had known. We spent over 5 hours at the airport the next day waiting for the flight too so really only managed to sleep & eat at the hotel. My husband & eldest daughter lost a days wages as they had no more leave available. Can we claim for that? We also rented the wifi for a day so we could keep an eye online and make sure all went ahead. Not sure where to start so will keep reading ...0 -

Start at the beginning with the FAQs - and all the links - on page one. It's all there - everything you need to prosecute this to a successful conclusion.0 -
Just wanted to keep everyone informed, sent all my stuff and been through the steps advised throughout this thread. Submitted an MCOL claim in relation to my virgin flight to Orlando on 27th July 2009 which was cancelled due to an engine control unit failure after push back. I will let you all know the outcome.0

Hi,
Finally had a reply from Virgin yesterday, sent the letter on the 30th Jan and reply dated 14th June! Our delay was 8hours.
Anyway, reply basically says they had a problem with engine number 1, investigations on the engine resulted in the aircraft requiring a complete engine change.
We could neither have anticipated nor avoided this event even if we had used all the resources available to us; therefore we believe any compensation payment would be unreasonable for the airline.
What do I do next is it the NBA or go through the CAA?????0 -

NBA. that's what I have done. Not worth wasting more time waiting for CAA response.0
