Unfortunately, the regs EC261/2004 do not cover cancellations when you are given notice of more than a couple of weeks.

I'd have a look at your travel insurance but no claim under the regs I'm afraid.

    Hi,

Me and several mates, have had our flight to Las Vegas later this year cancelled and we've been rebooked onto a flight 24 hours later, thus reducing our trip from 8 days to 7 days.

Some booked the whole holiday via Virgin Holidays and some of us just the airline and hotel separately.

Are we all entitled to claim the £440, as detailed in the below linked article and where hotels would be dearer to cancel and then rebook are we entitled to claim for this as well.

Have you been given more than 14 days notice of the change?
If so compensation does not apply, neither will any additional costs be covered
If the revised date does not suit then you can tell Virgin this and state that you need to stick to your current dates and they may be able to reroute you either with a connection or on another airline

Thanks for the confirmation, it's isn't for over 6 months, so I guess we are stuck.

Just makes me mad, that they can simply cancel a flight by 24 hours and disrupt peoples plans.

They must know that when it's a flight to somewhere like Las Vegas, it's highly likely to be a holiday planned well in advance, with hotels/car hire etc, arranged and booked.

It's the only direct flight that day and I wouldn't mind a same day flight, just later or earlier, but to move it to the next day and get away with it scot free, really gets my goat.

Everything better be spot on, or I'll sure be in there, with complaints etc.

I'll be doing my hardest, never ever to travel with them again.

you will find this happens with many airlines
the earlier you book, the higher the chance of there being changes
the scheduled airlines work on a summer and winter timetable (changing end March and end October) if you book in March then these schedules will be more or less set until end October but the schedules/slots from end October will not have been fully finalised so, instead of only allowing people to book flights within the current set schedule only and waiting until timetable is fixed, they will estimate the schedules for the next time period to enable people to book but there will be a chance that there will be changes

I would cancel it and rebook elsewhere, but apart from the fact it isn't just me, we got a good deal on Upper Class by booking so early.

Sure, it's still expensive, but when we looked a month later it had gone up by over 50%, so we felt pleased, we were paying a lot less, by booking early.

My mate arranged it for me and is going to speak to them later, but I don't hold out any hope, of their customer service getting any better.

It happens all the time, I myself booked a Ryanair flight for myself and my daughter from Leeds/Bradford to Barcelona, booked that far in advance that I got the flights and the separate booked accommodation really cheap, just a few weeks before we were due to go, got a letter to say all further flights to Barcelona from LBA had been cancelled, they offered a refund, but what can you do when you have car parking, transfers and hotel accommodation booked? I had to fly with another carrier and it cost me three times the price, Fuming doesn't even come close:mad: but they can and they do. Nothing that you can do, it hurts.

    Cheers,

My mate spoke to them and nothing could be done, as I thought. So we will just have to put up with it.

I suppose one saving grace, it means I can use the money I was going to spend in the casino on the first night, on something else lol.

Gotta laugh, or I swear I'll work myself up to giving them a ton of abuse, which won't get me anywhere, but just annoy me further. :(

LHR - CAPE TOWN Feb 2012 flight delayed 12 hours due to " technical problems" was given overnight accommodation and £30 food voucher.
After a moan got 25,000 virgin miles and a invite to Virgin lounge for next trip.

WASHINGTON - LHR Feb 2015 flight delayed for 27 hours hours due to "technical problems". Not put in complaint yet as only last Thursday departure.
Pre warned me 17 hours before and no offer to re route me or back on another airline.
Will I still be able to claim for the 2012 flight even though I accepted the air miles ?
I am a virgin silver tier member and have been for last 6 years.

Got 2 x cheques for £441.30 each sent on April 3rd and no mention or quibble of the 25,000 flying club miles being withdrawn.

Has anyone had any luck claiming back for Virgin flight VS002 from Newark on 3/9/2012?

I claimed and received the following:

"We regret to advise you that we have declined your claim on the grounds that the cause of the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances which were beyond the control of Virgin Atlantic and which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

"The aircraft encountered an unexpected technical problem prior to take-off with one of its thrust reversers. Our engineers tried to fic the problem however after further investigation replacement parts were need to be sourced in order to rectify the problem, which could not be obtained locally."

As per the examples above re: technical issues, it sounds like they were wrong to deny the claim (and I will go back and challenge them).

I was wondering if anyone had successfully claimed for this flight?

    Thanks,

    Mark

I wrote to Virgin again about 4 weeks ago in light of recent rulings, and they have finally paid me the full EUR600 amount :-)

So if you've been rejected, I would suggest writing again.

I also can't help wondering if they're paying out now as the exchange rate on the Euro has moved in their favour...

We have just received cheques for our delayed flight from March 2014 at the second attempt, these have been calculated based on the exchange rate at the date of writing rather than the flight date, resulting in difference of approx. £70 each x three, so around £210 in total.

Has anyone gone back to go for the extra based on exchange rate, or is it a futile thing to do and just accept that Virgin have yielded to the claim?

    Many thanks
