Having been affected by this on easyJet, I noticed that it was really only Ryanair and easyJet that cancelled flights to Marseille, the ATC centre going on strike. Did other airlines sit on the fence in the hope the strike may not go ahead? Or did they plan on informing passengers on arrival at the airport? Obviously airlines like BA would have potential alternatives such as Lyon, as we flew, or Nice etc. Or did French ATC only instruct certain airlines to cancel their flights? Ionly received my text at 7am Friday morning for Saturday flight, giving my just over 24 hrs notice, when the airlines knew 10am the day before. Booking alternatives still showed several options with different airlines to Marseille but it wasn't worth the risk. Ryanair and easyJet flights were also cancelled to Montpellier and Nice. Slightly perplexed. At least Ryanair message mentions the option of alternative airlines. easyJet didn't and I really did have to search the website to find any info.

  • Hi, I hope i'm posting in the right place, I need some advice. My flight was cancelled from STN to Jerez on 28th May (the morning after the Stansted lightening strikes). I wasnt emailed or sent a text only finding out when i was on the Train to Stansted and looking at my boarding pass. When I got there, there were horrendous queues and proceeded to wait for 5 hours to find out where I stood.

Eventually a customer service rep came out handing a 'notice of your rights in the event of flight delay or flight cancellation' letter saying that we should seek to book our flights with alternative airlines as there was nothing available in that week (half term) and we should keep all receipts of flights and other expenses in order to get a reimbursement.

I ended up forking out an extra £350 on an alternative flight from Birmingham the next day and transfers and accommodation as it was the cheapest and only alternative for me to get out to Spain and not lose out completely on everything that I had spent thus far. Having been assured by the representative that money would be reimbursed saying they have to as they have handed out these letters, I'm now not so sure that i'll get anything back other than the original flight cost which was a lot less than I ended up paying to get out to Spain.

Also, If I did get any reimbursement back, where do I stand on compensation? I am still unsure as to why the flight was cancelled, at first I was told it was due to a strike in France, even though I was flying to Spain and other Ryanair flights to Spain such as Seville were still operational that day. My flight was one of the early flights going out so it could have been a back log of the day before but would that count as not being their fault, I'm not sure where i can find the actual reasoning for the cancellation.

I'm really starting to worry that i have lost a lot of money for being naive in what they told me at the airport and this was money I couldn't afford to lose :-(.

Ryanair are currently looking into my claim but id be grateful for any advise in the meantime

There's no point worrying now, wait for Ryanair to get back to you and take it from there.

Same with compensation, you will need to file a claim with Ryanair and see what they say. The most likely reason for the cancellation is that it was due to knock-on effects from the incident the day before. If so, it's a stretch to argue that this is non-extraordinary IMO.

Hi i!!!8217;m hoping for some advice.

I!!!8217;ve just had a claim rejected on the grounds that the flight was delayed due to adverse weather.

However, staff at the airport and on the flight said there was a technical fault with the plane. But I don!!!8217;t know how I can prove this.

    Any help much appreciated

Hi can anyone let me know how long it is before i should get some sort of recognition from Ryanair that my claim is feasible? It was for a trip from Newcastle uk to Faro Portugal early April this year , 3hr 40 min delay due to mechanical problem with aircraft, another one had to be flown from Dublin to take us to our destination . I put a claim in to them on Ryanair website , received an email saying they received it . It seems to have been such a long time since I put claim in , are they hoping I'll forget all about it and go away ? . How long does it usually take ?

I have no personal experience with how long Ryanair takes to respond but after 2+ months I'd chase up on it.

Hi guys can anyone confirm if it would be easier to go directly to ryanair online claim or resolver
Flight was meant to leave 0630hrs, we got text while waiting to board got text that it had been cancelled and rescheduled to 1345hrs. We were not told why,the ladies at the boarding gate said they didnt know reason we were given 5 euro voucher. Had travelled 1.5hrs from hotel so stayed at aieport. Come 1200hrs again at boarding gate text that it was delayed to 1900hrs. Again no reason shared.we were given the 5 euro voucher again. Flight didnt leave until 8pm. All in all we were tdelayed by 12.5hrs. What are the chances of getting any compensation? Do i claim for delay or for compensation or both?
