  • Just been informed from Bott & Co that Ryanair have agreed to pay my wife and myself compensation for a delayed flight in Nov 2014 from Malaga to Bristol. My flight was delayed because the flight that was picking us up was delayed in Germany due to bad weather meaning it was a knock on. Didn't need boarding passes or anything just the flight number.

  • Did you hear when and how much? I am with Bott too
  • That's great news about the compensation- I'm with Bott & Co too. Fingers crossed the rest of us hear back soon.

I'm very infuriated with Ryanair. Initially, my claim of compensation was for EUR1000, which is £794 at the date of the delay (Year 2012).

Recently (27th October) they've reconsidered their position and offered £740. But did not have my bank details and have had no response since after I have emailed/called them another 4 - 5 times for almost 3 weeks now. Today, I finally received a response and said they have transfered the money to me already for £710., which will take 5-10 days at todays currency exchange rate of EUR1000.

They are taking an absolute mickey out of me. Is there a way for me to deny this payment and take this to the ESCP court? They already don't have to pay 8% interest for the past 3 years for the compensation, but are now reducing the compensation as they please, even though before they agreed to compensate me £740.

I am very displeased and there is no way to contact them at all.. a phone call leads to nothing. What an outrageously disgusting company and I am more than happy to take this to the ESCP court as they have done nothing but play me this whole time.... I have all the evidence of my correspondents with them for the past 3 years in chronological order. If they have reconsidered their position after denying my claim twice it's clear that the delay was due to their fault (although they have not accepted liability).

Is there a way to deny the payment or accept under protest? Or assert them to what they promised of £740? Is there an actual email or phone number I can call that will sort this out instantly?! Worst customer service in my life....
  • Hello, can anyone confirm if I am right in thinking that if your flight is 6 hours late landing you are entitle to compensation £190? plus your original flight ticket price refund? That's what I understood, but not sure if I am correct.

PS: just to let everyone know that after escalating my claim I have now been offered compensation. Although I think it is less then it should be.
    Thank you in advance

No. They owe you the Euros amount, which they are converting for your convenience. They could even pay you in euros, if you prefered. The vagaries of the exchange rate are not their responsibility unfortunately.

Even though they have agreed to pay me EUR1000 which they themselves converted to £740 detailed in their letter on the 27th October?

I have tried to contact them via multiple emails/calls for the past almost 3 weeks with no response to give them my bank details or ask them to send a cheque.

Now conveniently they have dragged it out and finally responded 3 weeks later more or less with a lesser amount of compensation. Is that not going back on their word (they detailed the exact amount £740 in their letter) and they are punishing me with a lesser compensation even though it was them who did not respond to me?
   .

    Very dishonest...

It's not dishonest. It's just unlucky. Had the Euro appreciated in value against the pound, you'd have got more.
