Cut and pasted from the MSE flight delay compensation page:
Do I have to accept money in vouchers?
We've heard plenty of reports of airlines giving flight vouchers instead of cash. In particular, Thomas Cook often crops up as doing this. But you don't have to accept these, you're entitled to your compensation in cash (likely to be paid by cheque).
I have just replied as follows:
I note your acceptance below of my entitlement to compensation under my claim ref:XXXXXX.
I reject your offer of vouchers in lieu of the prescribed rate of monetary compensation due under EU 261/2004.
Please revert to me as soon as possible with your proposals for settling this matter by way of payment at the appropriate rate of 250 euro per passenger, in Great British Pounds.0 -
+the money I spent to get home.
unless you were transported to a different airport than the one booked and are claiming reimbursement to get back to the original airport, travel from the airport is consequential losses which the airline are not responsible for. (contract ends when they get you to the airport)
If you need reimbursed for that you should try your travel insurance.0 -
Hi
Does anyone know if I can ask for a monetary compensation rather than accept vouchers. Flybe have offered me vouchers that must be used within 18 months. I have no plans to travel in that time.
Thanks0 -
hi all, hopefully i can get some advise after a bad day with Flybe at Birmingham airport, apologies for the long post
I was due to fly from Birmingham to Aberdeen on Sunday 29th March on the FLYBE flight departing at 14:45, arriving in Aberdeen at 16:00, at 15:00 this was cancelled, after an hour’s wait at the Customer Service desk I was re-booked onto a Flybe flight to Glasgow departing at 18:30, with a promise of onward travel from Glasgow back to Aberdeen, and given a leaflet regarding the Flybe cancellation policy, where we read we would be provided with food and drink, this was never provided, nor were we told to get receipts for anything, (I realise now this was naive) at 19:15 the Glasgow flight was also cancelled, again after a wait at the customer service desk I was re-booked on to the Edinburgh flight departing at 20:30, at nearly 9:30 we boarded though the plane didn’t actually depart until 10:15pm, I asked the stewardess on-board about Flybe arranging onward travel from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, and was told to go to the swissport desk in the terminal on arrival, at the swissport desk I was told I had to make my own arrangements,(this was midnight) onward travel or accommodation, and to get receipts and pointed in the direction of the taxi office.. the flat rate fare from Edinburgh airport to Aberdeen was £312. Which I had to pay on arrival. i finally arrived home at 02:50, 11 hours later than expected
I have lodged a complaint/claim with Flybe regarding the lack of food and drink, onward travel, taxi fare etc
Is there a claim for compensation here for the cancelled flights?
many thanks0 -
Start by reading Vaubans guide and enjoy your compensation.

I've also had the voucher offer. Does anyone know if the vouchers can be transferred to others? The £300 offer is far better than a conversion of €250 to GBP (about £183). so if people are able to transfer them to others at a discount that could be worthwhile for anyone who wants a discounted flybe holiday/flight0

I'd personally ask for cash and don't forget the correct date as decided by DJ Jenkinson to work out the Euro to GBP is the date you commenced legal action.. Not today's date which no doubt Flybe would attempt to use.

You'll need to ask Flybe about their T&Cs. In my experience, all these vouchers seem quite restrictive in how they can be used. You sure it's £300 and not 300 euro?0
