Hello
Just wondering if anyone wonders we could be entitled to anything? Flew from Newcastle to Tunisia, but on way back we flew back to Manchester as Newcastle flight was cancelled understandably. Left hotel at 6:30, arrived in Manchester about 13:25, there was a Thomas Cook rep holding a sign for Newcastle, he told us to 'go to the bus station' - first time in Manchester airport, didn't have a clue where we were going. When we got there there was no one from Thomas Cook there so we just waited. Eventually at 14:30 someone showed up. They stuck us on two coaches, only 36 of the 63 travelling were here; so we had to wait until 15:30 when they just decided to send the first coach on it's way. As you can imagine it was a long drive because of the numerous motorway upgrade projects on the route, we finally arrived at Newcastle at 18:30 - 12 hours after we left the hotel. There was no Thomas Cook rep on the bus, we didn't stop at a services, we wern't offered any food or drink - so we had a 12 hour trip, with nothing..
Anyone think it's worth going through Insurance or complaining to Thomas Cook?
Again - I don't mind the diversion, it was just the way it was executed. We weren't told until the day before it was going to happen in the first place0 -
lukebateson we may have been on the same flight was this on the 8th July? I too have written to TC to complain0
-
Yes it was:) and right, I think I'll start typing!0

I think TC will cited terrorism as an exceptional circumstance but our was not an emergency flight both Glasgow and Newcastle flights were cancelled and the reason given was that they were consolidating flights. We never arrived in glasgow till after 8pm - 6 hours later than we should have arrived in Glasgow. It was a shambles.0

We have finally had our claim settled regarding flight TCX 162 from Manchester to Cancun on 11th July 2013 using Bott & Co.
The flight was turned back to Manchester mid Atlantic due to weather radar failure. The aircraft was the infamous Airbus A330 (G-OMYT) that was subject to at least 3 engine failures and other major problems in the months prior to our flight.
Thomas Cook made every excuse under the sun when I originally tried to claim compensation. I received a letter from them upon arrival in Cancun admitting unforeseen technical problems they still went on to try and blame adverse weather in future correspondence.
After 18 months and 5 letters I eventually gave up trying myself as I was getting nowhere and enlisted the solicitors.
The usual manufacturing defect in a part was also blamed in a recent letter to Bott & Co from them.
There were 3 adults on the flight therefore I am expecting the payout to be €1800 minus the 25% Bott & Co's fees.
I certainally hope the payout is calculated at the exchange rate 2 years back and not today's as I will be considerably out of pocket due to today's exchange rate.
There are many cases where Thomas Cook have agreed to pay out but Bott & Co have had to send the bailiffs in to obtain the money as payment wasn't forthcoming in a reasonable time period.
If anyone else is claiming for this flight I wish them every success in their claim.0 -
We have followed Martin Lewis' guidelines and used the template letters regarding a Thomas Cook flight from Larnaca, Cyprus to Newcastle, UK - the letter was sent in December 2013 after the delay of just over 9 hours occurred in September 2013. We have received emails sporadically from Cyprus saying that it was still being dealt with and we have just received an email from Thomas Cook offering £290 voucher to be used on one of their holidays by July 2016. Has anybody else been offered vouchers from Thomas Cook to be used on another of their holidays? We were under the impression that we would be offered a cash compensation for the delay. Any advise would be welcome - thank you0

Compensation between Larnac and Newcastle is 400euro PER PERSON for a valid claim and you can insist on cash. Vouchers can be offered but you have to agree. From reading your case it would appear that there is more than one person you are claiming for.0
