I have completed the MCOL online process now! Can't wait to receive Monarchs response.

Strange one, it said Northampton County Court, is this due to their post code? As we live in Lancashire!

Will be transferred to your local court if Monarch defend.

I had a flight delay ZB870 Luton to Palma 31/7/2010 of 10 hours.

I complained to Monarch at the time and they offered £40 off each (4 of us) on a future flight booking (no cash value). We didn't take up this offer.
    Could I reclaim now?

They said 'the delay was due to changes to our flying programme as a result of a technical problem with our fleet' - whatever that means?!

    What does anyone think? Thanks

Yes it appears you have a valid claim.

Hi, I think this was asked before but cannot see a response. Our flight ZB826 from Luton to Dalaman on 20/8/2010 was scheduled for take off at 3.05 but did not leave until midnight.
Will MOnarch accept the claim form if I do not have tickets/boarding cards? I did book online but not in my order history . Only proof I guess is passport date stamp? Tx

Yes ~ get on with claim particularly as you know flight number and dates. May be worth checking on flightstats for information and screen print from there.
  • I was wondering whether it may be a good idea to start a new thread entitled Flight delays Compensation Monarch- List of flights/claims pending. All we would need is the flight number the date/year of the flight and Destination. There seems to be numerous flights were claims have been made but to date no respunse has been received from Monarch. I know Mark, on this forum has been doing a tremendous amount of work on this subject and I would hate to tread on this toes starting a new thread. Also perhaps someone with more technical expertese would be able to set up a thread that the flights could be added to. perhaps I have just thrown the seeds of thought. But if we could should the number of Monarch flights that had delays of more than 3 hours and were pending, might not this not help as documentation to tthe press, television or even the courts.

Look at page 1 ~ thanks Mark!
  • Hi Ang,

I am interested to know what time you eventually arrived back at Manchester. Monarch are saying that due to your delay our flight was delayed but at moment details do not add up.

    Just an update

Received the following reply the other day:-

Re: Flight ZB685 Sharm El Sheikh to Manchester on 29th September 2012

    Usual intro etc.

Our records show that on the day of your flight, the aircraft scheduled to operate your inbound flight landed in Sharm El Sheikh on schedule after having completed the outbound sector. Unfortunately, prior to its departure back to the UK, the crew reported that the right hand wing deflector panel had detached at hinge line. We arranged for an engineer to be flown out to Sharm El Sheikh to rectify the fault. Upon arrival, he established that the hinge pin had sheared during flap operation and he advised that this fault is not detectable until failure. It was unfortunate that as a result of the time required to investigate and resolve the problem, your flight was subject to an unavoidable overnight delay.

Having considered the factual background of this incident, I am satisfied that this was indeed an extraordinary circumstance that could not have reasonably been prevented by Monarch. I am unable to agree to your claim for compensation.

    Yours sincerely,

A fault "which is not detectable until failure" scares the life out of me. How many parts on an aircraft are classed as being of a similar nature? Surely components have a certain life span and should be changed before failure occurs.

This email followed a phone call from the Monarch legal team offering to reimburse our legal fee of £70 if we withdrew our claim as they were going to "throw money at the case".

It appears to me that if you want to invoke a reply from them then you must go down the Court route.

I will be respectfully declining the offer as I still believe I have a case.

Any comments from the Forum are always appreciated

You appear to be asking for a separate list where people have just claimed and not had a denial as of yet, from Monarch?
