Does the same issue affect buses and trains, where there are leaves on the line, floods, and so on? just wondered if those who have to wait for hours in those modes can expect something aswell?

Not that it's particularly relevant but.... when it comes to claiming for delayed trains there is no concept of extraordinary, i.e. train companies have to pay out regardless if the reason for the delay.

My case for ZB533 on 09.04.11 Palma - Manchester has been referred to Bott & Co for consideration. I'll post any progress in this thread for anyone else on that flight.
  • Monarch have finally agreed to pay compensation on this flight.
Flight MON303 which was the outbound flight was not originally delayeddue to technical difficulties; it hadn’t even landed at Manchester for thepassengers to board. Passengers did board the plane at 12:30 (4 hours after thescheduled flight time) only then to be advised that a fault had occurred andall passengers must disembark. The plane was already 4 hours delayed before thefault had even been found.

Brilliant news :j :T  , sent you a Private message.
  • Does anyone know the flight arrival time for my flight on 20th September 2010 MON5056, Manchester to Luxor? It was delayed by 5hrs 18mins for take off. I am trying to complete one of Martins template claim letters. I didn't keep my paperwork, so i'm having to dig and delve for details!
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has any info.

A post on the Monarch Complaints Facebook Page may also assist you.

You don't need to know the exact arrival time, just say in the letter that the delay was over 3 hours (or 4 hours).

Note: Because this flight was over 3,500km Monarch have the right to half the compensation from 600 to 300 Euros if the delay was less than 4 hours.

If you're quite certain that the arrival delay was over 4 hours then put that in your letter.

Unfortunately I can't find the exact arrival time, but Monarch will have that information. If they offer you 300 Euros then you should ask for proof of the arrival time.
  • Monarch are due to take delivery today of an A320 airbus to replace G-MONX. It is being obtained from Air Salvage International who deal in Salvage, Recovery and Disposal of aircraft.
Its 13 yrs of age and has seen service with Air 2000,Sky services, First Choice, Thompson, Saga and then ended up in Libya before going to Air Salvage.
Will be refitted soon and use registration G-ZBAP.
Maybe this is the way forward for this airline, buying from salvage yards. At least it will be younger than some of the planes in service.

First Update this year for flight MON1874
Our claim is with a NWNF company I received an e mail from them on the 31/12/13 informing me that Monarch had failed to respond to them within the 14 day time period (no surprise there !!) the second 14 day period has now passed and I've received this e mail from the NWNF company today:

The airline has previously denied any liability to compensate the passengers on this flight. We are not yet in a position to issue court proceedings on this claim, however we will continue to review the matter every 28 days. We will continue to update you as and when further developments occur.

Not really sure what that means ??

Seems like they could be waiting for some legal things to happen so you may have a better case against against Monarch.

It could be because of the Huzar case which is Jet 2 but other airlines have jumped on the bandwagon I think it's caused things to go into limbo at the moment so things may have to wait until the Huzar situation is resolved, good job I was prepared for this to be a long job !!
