I feel that it is about time that the ATOS rep is kicked off this board as the people who run this site must surely by now know what ATOS is about.

I am all for free speech but letting them continue to come on here is in my opinion legitimising the company actions which I am sure most decent people disagree with in light of the stories as outlined above.

Some may argue that letting them stay and asking questions to make them account for their actions is the best way to go about it.

It would in my opinion be more of a defence of vulnerable and disabled people if the ATOS rep was told to go.

We will not be able to change the governments policies or for that matter stop ATOS but if enough people on this site were to ask for him/her to be removed then at least this website would be seen to stand up for some decency in our society.

    Hi everyone

Just a heads up an adjournment debate on audio recording of work capability assessments is currently scheduled in Parliament tomorrow, we've put the details we have on the Benefits Board

Hopefully it will address the concerns that [some] claimants are told at the last minute that their WCA cannot be recorded because atos have nobody available to operate the (highly complex!!!!) recording machine!

It seems that MSE are only doing what they're told by atos on this one!!

And yes everyone know what atos is about....sticking to targets!!!

    I was after some help - my Mum was in hospital earlier this year for over a Month with severe cardiomyopathy and heart failure. She is out and at home as they are trying to manage the condition with lots of medication. If this doesnt work then they said the next option would either be heart surgery or a pacemaker. She is constantly breathless and light headed and it's really changed her life - no energy what soever and constantly being sick. I completed her DLA claim form to the best of my abilty (using a lot of information found on this forum :) ) and have been keeping in contact with the DLA regarding updates. They have requested a report from the Consultant Cardiologist, which it appears they have now recieved. When I spoke with them today they advised me that they have requested for an ATOS doctor to conduct a home visit. My questions are;

    - Am I able to be with my Mum during this consultation? I'm sure not all of the representatives are horrible but I want to be there.

    - Can she request a specialist?

    - what should she expect from the visit?

She really is worrying regarding what she will do for money. She has left the hosue 3 times since her discharge, with myself and needs taxi's which she cannot afford. I have been helping her with her bills (and bedroom tax) but this isn't a long term solution.

    Thanks!!!

Given that the MSE Sponsored Atos Rep rarely shows their face now allow me to help.

You are most certainly allowed to be with your Mum. I very much advise you to be there and also take notes of everything that is said and takes place.

if you're asking for an specialist from atos then I'm afraid you're given what you get and that's not very much. Hopefully it will be someone who is competent!

Be prepared for questions about what your Mum can and cannot do. A typical day may be asked for.

    Take a look at THIS

Don't forget that if you don't get the result you were expecting then request a copy of the report and appeal within 28 days of the decision letter.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I will take a look at the link now, then I think it's a case of waiting for the letter and appointment so I can book time off from work.

I've heard such bad things about Atoms - my Mum has too so I suppose it's normal to expect the worse. In the menatime we are just trying to ensure she doesn't get in debt (I'm only just getting out of it myself) or evicted.

    Thanks again.

Remember that DLA is awarded on the persons care and mobility needs, the actual medical problem that causes those needs is secondary. So you will have to demonstrate that your Mum has certain care and certain mobility issues/needs/requirements because of her heart condition.

So for example if her mobility is restricted so that she can only walk 50m without becoming breathless or experiencing severe discomfort due to her heart condition this is something that should be mentioned at the assessment if it hasn't already been stated on the DLA form.

Yes - I stated severe discomfort on the DLA form and will make sure we mention this at the assessment. It's things like cooking, cleaning, going out (so she can't shop for food etc) that she can't do as she's constantly out of breath. Hopefully it will improve but in the meantime she needs some help. myself and her neighbour are cooking meals for her at present and the neighbour is also walking the dog and cleaning. She just feels really helpless. :(

    Hi GwylimT

I’m not sure how the misunderstanding has come about regarding the age of the HCP who assessed you, but due to the training and experience requirements for HCPs we don’t have any who are as young as 20.

Regarding your second point, if you could contact us directly we can clarify with you the circumstances you describe and look into them.

Misunderstanding, you might as well just call us all liars as that is what you have done to most of us on here. You do employ people who are not qualified, you do employ people who are not registered with the GMC this is public knowledge as your are currently being investigated for this.

I have previously contact ATOS about form fillers lying on forms and being abusive, your answer? To deal with it or to get a job because apparently my partner isn't disabled, just workshy scum.
