Ask Atos Healthcare disability assessment questions

I've been looking at the descriptors for ESA and need some clarification.
The descriptor for '12. Awareness of everyday hazards (such as boiling water or sharp objects).' seems to be limited to people with mental health conditions. My husband is severely visually impaired and so has very limited awareness of this kind of thing, but the question seems to be aimed at those who would be unaware due to mental health or learning disabilities, rather than sensory impairment.
Would this descriptor still be applied to him, or is there another question that specifically relates unawareness of hazard to sensory impairment? Obviously this is a very large part of the reason he can't currently work.
Thanks.
The rules have (again) changed in that (sic) there is now a stipulation that only a claimant with a physical condition can satisfy the physical descriptors and only a claimant with a mental health condition can satisfy the mental descriptors. Any side-effects of medication for physical health can also only be taken into account for physical health problems and vice versa.0 -
Hi JS477
You should do the same for this unlikely situation as for other situations that I’ve been asked about relating to the WCA process where it is thought that something hasn’t happened as it should have - contact us so that we can investigate.
Thank you and welcome back to the forum!
In relation to the above response wouldn't it be easier to instruct your HCPs to carry out their WCAs properly i.e. if a claimant requests their name and area of training then they are to provide such and not refuse so the claimant has to contact atos and be more than likely fobbed off with a load of flummery!0 -
I have asked this question several times over the last week or so, surely its not that difficult to answer?sicknotethefirst wrote: »Atos Rep: Do you know how I take a complaint to Atos at a second level? or an independent level.
Did you mis this one????0 -
Hi Redman
The answers that I have previously given on here still apply. That the question asked by claret-hammer relates to an assessment at home does not change anything with regards the processes in place. As sicknotethefirst has pointed out, further information about the recording of assessments can be found on our blog. If you want your assessment to be recorded you can arrange it by calling the number on your appointment letter.
I do not wish to read ATOS's blog.
You are allowed on MSE to answer questions posed by users of MSE not to refer them to your blog.
Can you categorically confirm that ATOS facilitate the audio recording of home face to face assessments for ESA and DLA in the same way as they do, for face to face assessments carried out at an ATOS Assessment Centre ?
A simple "Yes" answer will suffice, if applicable.0 -

Hi Redman
I’m afraid that I’m not sure what you are asking that my previous response that you quote doesn’t answer. I said that the process for home assessments is no different to the process for assessments in a centre. If you can clarify what else it is you are asking I can try to get an answer for you based on where you are in the process.“Official Company Representative

As far as I'm concerned, my husband should be okay as he fulfils the support group descriptor about working being dangerous to him and others- this was why he had to leave work. However, it would be easier to make that clear to the DWP if there was a descriptor about unawareness of hazard in the physical section, which is currently almost entirely related to mobility only.
Oh well, not much Atos rep can do about that of course.
A clear reply about the possibility of making a complaint to an independent body would be good though. Something along the lines of 'There is a body and its details are xxxx' or 'there is currently no such body' would do, if you need pointers.0 -
