Didn't expect Jessops to be next...

Anyway, gone into administration today...

192 stores. 2,000 employees.

Play.com is also in trouble apparently as their model simply can't work while having to add VAT onto goods, and warning of possible future issues. Jobs also gone.

It is so sad, 'specially coming on the heels of Comet.

So many people out of jobs.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Probably more like a couple of years!

It's a great shame, but no surprise. Their staff were extremely knowledgeable, which was part of their downfall. People looking for Cameras would pop down to the local Jessops, have a chat with the staff about what would be best for them, then go back home and find out who was selling it cheapest on the internet.

Your're right, but ultimately i vote with my wallet.

On the flip side i ride a motorbike,i can source oil / tyres / spares etc cheaper online, but prefer to use a local bike shop.

Albeit paying more for stuff because hes local and dependable.

Perhaps more significantly what are the manufacturers and online suppliers going to do? In some areas such as high cost kitchen units manufacturers have showrooms. Perhaps we will see AEG or HP showrooms where you will be able to inspect the full range before ordering elsewhere.

I have recently bought a new lens and considered the extra £20 I paid by buying it in a good local camera shop that put it on a camera and let me try it out money well spent.

I bought my digital SLR and associated extras from Jessops about 18 months ago.

I didn't care that they were a little more expensive than I could have got it online. I managed to get a lot of sense out of the people who worked there and I was grateful for that. They gave me some really good advice. When it comes to a fairly substantial outlay on something that's the sort of thing I rely on, so I'm a bit disappointed to see them going into administration.

I never did get my free prints done...nevermind!

I've heard that put forward before but except in exceptional circumstances I can't see it happening.
