  • Yep just been stung by them as well. £99.00!

Company trading as Passport-Uk, though behind it is a company WHO4 Ltd, which appears to be involved in a string of dubious scams as do the directors.

One day they will do this to the wrong people.

Should have readthe website, you would have seen its not the correct site.
  • Alas, another newboid comes along and warns us all of a scam. Now hear BoPs tips for not being stung by a website offering a service.

    Deep pockets, short arms.

The problem is not with the website or the reader or even Google (the medium its coming from).

The problem is with IPS who fail to enforce their authority on these mushrooming sites. Ok, I agree, they are not doing anything illegal but from a ethical and moral standpoint, they should not be allowed. Period.

Would you expect a person with dyslexia to 'read' and understand the genuiness of the website providing this service? Get real for heaven sake !

PS: (Now please do not bring in the debate why would a dyslexic person be allowed to go online and make independent decision)

So you state that they are not doing anything illegal, but you think that the IPS should "enforce their authority".
How would you suggest they enforce anything against a company that is acting within the law?

Well said. You hit nail right on the head, its not me, "they", IPS need to 'think' ; I mean their policy makers and enforcement authority just like they HMRC cracks tax evasion or border control tackles illegal immigration.... In my view, these kind of business is no different from them till the point it gets formally enforced.

Have you contacted HM Passport Office (IPS is the old name) to complain?

Have you contacted your MP to ask him/her to bring it up for discussion and consider a change in the law?

Have you done anything proactive to highlight this issue to anyone who may be in a position to even try to do something about it?
A spokesperson for Her Majesty’s Passport Office said:
It’s totally unacceptable that unscrupulous companies are continuing to trick people into paying for information which is available free of charge by Her Majesty’s Passport Office.

We have already taken action in the past with PhonepayPlus to fine owners of unofficial websites and are liaising with the Advertising Standards Authority to make it clearer that these sites are not affiliated with HM Passport Office. We continue to monitor these sites and explore new ways to counteract their activities.

What are you expecting HM Passport Office to do?

You mention action taken against illegal immigration or tax evasion but those are against the law.
As shaun from africa has already pointed out, these websites are not illegal and as such, the comparison is not valid.

HMRC and border control take action when illegal activity is discovered.
I will ask again, what can the IPS "policy makers and enforcement authority" do against a company that is not breeching any UK law?

Edited cos I was beaten to it.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    My friend hpuse:

Use your brain to Google 'driving licence renewal.

You'll find lots and lots of websites that offer a chargeable service.
So a similar service does exist for DVLA when renewing driving licence.

Also applies to ESTA, EHIC, bookings for driving tests.....

All legal, regardless of your views on whether they are immoral or unethical.

    Next please. :rotfl:
