As many here have stated, the site IS legal, the whole damn business here is perfectly legal, just extremely immoral. I am hoping to be able to get her a refund on grounds of being unaware of what was being paid for, which I know is a very long shot, but it never hurts to try.
You need to check the particular website your GF's mother used (there are a number currently operating) and contact them in the way they say and with the information they ask for to be able to get a refund.

Some websites do have a refund policy - less an admin fee - some don't.

The quicker you act the better chance you stand of getting a refund.

I am yet another victim of this misleading website. I also clicked on the google link and was taken directly to the form section of the website. At no point from then does it warn that the site is not affiliated with the IPS and that the fee you are asked for is not actually for a new passport but purely for them checking your details and sending you a pre-printed form. I feel utterly conned. I should point out to users recommending 'not going to the first link you come across and going to the gov.uk sites' that the HM passport office site which you are directed to by clicking on one of the gov.uk search results also takes you to a similar check and send service. It would appear that you actually CANNOT apply ONLINE for a passport. I wish I had just gone into the post office for a form.

I have emailed the company informing them of my feelings - that I feel misled and asking for my money back. I will post if I get a response. In the meantime, I will be getting in touch with my credit card company in the hope that if passport.net will not refund me, then my credit card co. might be able to help.

I used my Galaxy 3 when I applied and only saw the online apply here and as the cost was inline with the passport cost I thought this would be quick. Once I paid and got home and logged into my PC at home i discovered what had happened.

I phoned and could only leave a message. Sent emails and all that I received is to allow 14 days for caool off period which then would lead to as their term states as service provided to which they have not done anything---- Amazing how comapnies get away with this . The worst is I did this for two passports.....:(:(

So which website did you use?

You tell us here that it was UK-passport.net, being the title of this thread, but your other thread says you used passport-uk.co.uk.

I can see why you might have problems finding the official site. ;)
  • I did exactly the same ( and for the same reason - late, in a rush ) I know its obvious to you other bloggers and I (and others ) were too hasty and should read what is there but I was too trusting & really think the official passport service/site should always come out as top search so this type of confusion wouldn't arise .

Yes, you too can change things so that these official sites come out first.

Have another read of post #228.

They have done no wrong so maybe thats why they aren't being dealt with. It says on the website what they do, that they aren't afilliated with the passport office.

Whilst I'm sympathetic, the fact remains the user of the service explicitly chose to use the services offered by a non-original supplier. This is no different to choosing to use a Tesco, GiffGaff, Virgin, Lebara or Talk Talk mobile. None of these firms have their own network, they all take your money and let another network provide a service (the 'real' supplier). They also charge for their services even though they are not the supplier - how is this any different?

I refuse to deal with anything other that the principal vendor - but whilst I agree this is sometimes difficult, a little bit of research (or careful reading) will throw up that the suppliers is doing nothing you couldn't do yourself - whether a Driving Licence or Passport, financial advice or PIP recovery there will always be more than one supplier, and it is arrogance to try to excuse this stupidity by trying to blame a firm that is simply offering a service. It's called 'buyer's remorse' and is more common than you'd believe

A refund is not a right, but it IS a valuable lesson that should put you in good stead for falling again. Just because Google suggests it, is no reason to treat it s gospel.

completely different....those companies supply the actual original service by agreement with the original Network.

The UK-passport.net web site is duping people into believing they are supplying the actual passport.........they are not legally authorised to supply passports.

That's not the impression I got.

When using 'UK-passport.net' that you supplied, the first sentence on their homepage is:
Our service is not connected to or affiliated with the Passport Office or any UK Government department.
    Where is the duping?
