    Which website did you use?

    This one:
    https://uk-passport.net/terms.html

says it charges £45.00 (not £69).

    They also say:
You may cancel your application for our service at any time up until we have processed your application and completed our service.
If you cancel before we have processed your application, we will issue a full refund. If the application has been processed we will refund the full payment less a £8.00 administration fee
so if this is the one you used I'm surprised that they refused a refund 'seconds' after you submitted your daughter's application.

If this isn't the website you used, please let us know which one it is.

If you feel this company is operating illegally, you could report them to Trading Standards, although I doubt it will get your money back if they say 'no refund'.

    I guess this is probably the company you used;

    http://www.passport.uk.com/index.php

They say nothing at all on their website about refunds at any stage so I guess you really are out of luck with getting your money back.

I am almost embarrassed :o to be writing here, as I was another to be recently 'misled' into renewing their passport with http://www.uk-passport.net/. I like to think I am careful, but clearly not careful and vigilant enough. To make matters worse I renewed 2 passports using this service!

I noticed almost immediately (unfortunately, not immediately enough to stop the second application, but I was on a roll!) and read the T's and C's and asked for a full refund, which I received about 24hrs later. :j I have received no email confirmation, but the full amount was credited back to the account and sort code I supplied.

I mentioned this to friends and apparently someone else ordered their's a week earlier, using this service unwittingly. I told them about it and they asked for a refund, expecting the £8 to be deducted, but got a full refund, and they must have already processed the application!

I have to say that I was not impressed reading this thread with the aggression and lack of sympathy and help given by 'holier than thou' posters; shame on you and I wish we were all as perfect as you. Please be sure to post honestly too when you make an error of judgement, so we can have a laugh at your expense.

For those that need more info on the company, the 'Whois' lookup details are here, giving addresses, contact details etc

Hopefully, this may have reassured someone that have recently made the same 'mistake', that you might be able to recover your losses ok. The data you have given them should also be ok, as they are based in the UK, as you can see from the link above, so you should be covered under the DPA.

    Good luck everyone!

Thank you. I actually read all the posts, most with astonishment, before I replied.

I choose not to use products like that suggested, because sometimes you might want to see those that might actually be useful. They also add to browser instability too, assuming you trust the add-on of course! An insecure add-on/plug-in, and you can never be sure they are not as you haven't written the code, could capture your passwords etc. I can see a thread now "have you used this..." Don't, because it does this and that and it's your own stupid fault for using it!!!!!

adblock plus does not cause browser instability. Use noscript as well and in fact its more stable because websites are not loading all sorts of junk.

Have you seen the amount of scripts photobucket and facebook try to open?

Here is what it tries to load to view one picture on photobucket.

    glam.com
    criteo.com
    atdmt.com
    exelator.com
    scorecardresearch.com
    pubmatic.com
    adsonar.com
    ricdn.com
    crwdcntrl.com
    sharethis.com
    google-analytics.com

    Facebook is just as bad.

This website also tries to load a couple, Chartbeat.com and google-analytics.com

It seems that you know more than the writers of the code themselves https://adblockplus.org/en/known-issues

But yes, there are all sorts of code that runs without your knowledge when you open a web page and I guess the thread here demonstrates that you can trust nobody on the net.

Perhaps that you clever people here already know that when you are communicating with your bank in a browser, using whatever strength encryption they choose, it's possible to intercept. If you are a worrier, I suggest that you don't start here

Did you read that list of known issues?
None of them mention browser instability or anything like it.

From that list it appears that the worst thing that happens is that AdblockPlus doesn't work, so you would be no worse off than if it wasn't installed at all.

But as you say, if you like reading the adverts, in case there is something you want to be sold, then carry on.

I certainly do not wish to force anything on to anyone.

It was just an idea that some may like. ;)

IT Security is new area of IT profession, and currently IPS's IT security has more work at taxpayers expense to see a bogus site for investigation?. May be ...a possibility...
  • Oh well..I too have fallen for this one.

I contacted sales@uk-passport.net to ask for a refund, I also contacted Trading standards, the Information Commisioner's Office and my bank.

I sent uk-passports.net an email asking for a refund and got a reply saying they would refund me less the £8 admin fee. But asked for an Order ID..which i have never received, the also asked for my acc number and sort code.

I spoke to my bank and they advised that they don't need my acc number and sort code as they already have my debit card details.

I also spoke to the Action fraud and they advised me to ask UK-passport.net to remove any personal information they hold on me under the data protection act.

Any complaint i send them i get the same email back asking for my Order ID (never got one) Sort Code and ACC number.

Any other email i send them eg asking them to supply me with my Order ID etc...get no reply.

I did a search on the postcode and address on the website on googlemaps and it brings up the middle of know-where in rural hampshire! I guess this means they are using a forwarding address to wherever these low-lifes do their so-called business from.

If your going to reply to me saying i should have read the T&C's don't bother..if you have any help it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Matt
